one of my classmates sent the AD a request to compile a list of Stanford Olympic participants (winter and summer) in addition to the list they have of medalists (and to add any winter Olympic medalists to the list).

Okay BC,
Serbia won the gold in wopo, and I'm guessing that's likely where Vavic came from (originally Yugoslavia) along with a number of his recruits. "Southern Crotia" just fits the bill for $C better than "Southern Serbia." It looks like Vavic's son was on the US and Usc team as well.

Looks like SC had a player on the Greek water polo team that earned a silver; they did not have any players on the Serbian water polo team.

Actually Vavic is from Montenegro. Among the former Yugoslavian republics Croatia has been the most represented on USC's water polo teams over the past several decades.

The term "University of Southern Croatia" to refer to USC water polo has been around for years. It did not specifically refer to this year's team. It referred to the long-time USC coach's practice of recruiting players from the former Yugoslavian countries (not just Croatia).
I think the USC coach was fired and indicted in the Varsity Blues scandal.
