Never.

RE: OREGON GAME THREAD - martyup - 10-02-2021

That early whistle on the Jones TD run in the 1st Q almost cost us the game.  That 4 points would have been nice at the end of the game.

This assumes we ever had any real hope of winning a national title....

No, because we would have kicked a field goal on fourth down to tie it.

I believe he's referring to previous years, like 2010.

Setup a suicide help line in Eugene, OR. #3 Ducks pull off the "Miracle Choke" in OT.
I mean, I thought Kal Sucked -- WOW! Oregon invented new ways to BLOW... a game. Stunning.

Although it didn't play out exactly as wished, but the result is the same.

By the way, I believe OSU is in first place in the P12 North.

I am so excited by this win, but based on what I saw from Oregon (particularly in the first half and the mistakes they made on final drive in regulation), they are not a playoff team. They will lose at least one more, because they still don't know how to finish games under Cristobal.

For the record, they have road games at UW, UCLA and Utah. They could easily lose two of those games or more.

It’s also possible for Stanford to win 5 of 6 remaining conference games and freeze Oregon out of the conference championship game.

Good game. Good game. Wow.

RE: OREGON GAME THREAD - BostonCard - 10-02-2021

Again, I cannot emphasize how monumentally stupid Cristobal's decision to pass on second down, killing the clock for us with the incompletion, was.

Since we have a loss already, we would have to win out, unless the Ducks choke another one away.  Also, don't sleep on OSU.

Oregon only gained the lead in the 4th and the biggest lead was 7.  Sure, we weren't moving the ball on offense in the 2nd half, but we were never far behind on the scoreboard.  I'd say that we WON the game rather than Oregon BLEW the game.

My new favorite Term-of-the-Week: "An UNTIMED DOWN" to finish the ball game on a Defensive penalty.

McKee --> 20/36, 230 yards, 6.4 ave, 3 TDs, 0 INTs

ESPN says the fans stormed the field.  If so, Stanford will get fined.  Any eye witness testimony?

We were on the losing end of 3 calls in the first half that could have made this a blowout.  First, the early whistle on Jones at the goal line.  Second, the poor spot on the QB sneak on 4th down.  Third, on the Oregon fumble that was reversed.  We are due for a call to go our way.

3 and out for O to start the 2nd half.

I had to watch the game on DVR, and am only now reading the comments.

Finally did get some favorable calls at the end.

I could have sworn that Tanner McKee suffered a concussion.  He looked limp after he was hit.  Blew me away when he came back in.  But he certainly looked fully intact cognitively, so that's reassuring.

Oregon certainly helped with an interception and 10 penalties for 99 yards (including 3 for 30 + one untimed play in the final drive).

There is no way anyone watching that stinking pile of garbage that was Stanford from late in the second quarter until 2 minutes left in the game would tell you that this should have been anything other than an Oregon blowout.
Here were our offensive drives:
3 plays, 2 yards: punt
2 plays, 5 yards: end of half
3 plays, -10 yards: punt
3 plays, 5 yards: punt
7 plays, 14 yards: punt
3 plays, 0 yards: punt

And then: 11 plays, 86 yards, TD with 0:00 left.

PS, can we stop with the complaints about clock management for a week?

I hope to see more of those throwback uniforms in the future (along with names on the back), especially if they're good luck after today.  A classic game to debut those beauties.

RE: OREGON GAME THREAD - Goose - 10-02-2021

I agree that Oregon is not a CFP team. They were not a CFP team before their best running back got hurt and they certainly are not now. Their coach makes a lot of strange decisions. The refs IMHO did not do a very good job today for both teams. The fact is, IMHO, Oregon is a "dirty" team and basically has been for the past 20 years. That said, the targeting call against Thibodeaux was marginal IMHO. He didn't know McKee was going to get hit from the other side at the same moment. He didn't lower his head. The helmet to helmet contact was cause by the hit from the other side. However, it was called. OTOH, I think the refs were letting Oregon get away with a lot of contact on the jump balls. I am glad they had the guts to call it at the end.

The fact is Christobal cost them the game by 1) not just running the ball on the last Oregon drive, and 2) playing a "prevent" defense with nobody in the middle of the field, especially after Stanford showed they could exploit it. Oregon the team didn't play great today, but their coach performed much, much worse IMHO.

I believe we had 6(!) false start penalties in the second half? Several of them were on receivers. That for sure didn't help us move the ball. It is also true that without Tremayne we seemed to lose confidence in ourselves.

Also, interesting nobody has said anything about McKee getting stopped on 4th and inches. I think it is unanimous on the Cardboard that it was a good decision, which is unheard of. OTOH, it showed that the middle of our OL is still a mess and can't move anybody.

The black uniforms were good luck (we were undefeated for several years in them)... until they weren't.  But the throwbacks are fugly and look anachronistic on modern helmets.
