Agree and can't imagine Shaw would do this in a million years unless there were some type of egregious conduct that gave him (or Muir or the University) no choice.
My concern is what Shaw does (or doesn't do) in the off-season with a 3-9 or 4-8 record.

As bad as things are right now....I unfortunately believe that it will have to get worse before it gets better. If we lose out the rest of the games and are somehow not competitive, that should cause some major changes in the coaching staff and administration in general.
General Bay Area fan interest (or lack of) is a major problem though....it's a related issue but another topic for discussion.

If not then end the Notre Dame relationship. They are much too good for Stanford. Do a home/home with Sac. St. Get the Spartans back into the stadium. Play Cal Poly every year and play some games in SLO (great town).
We keep playing NDAM as long as possible. Phenomenal games not that long ago.
But, the contract ends in 2023.

2011 W: A.Luck throws 4 TDs; we win again.
2012 L: Controversial OT, goal line game in South Bend
2013 W: We hold them off 27-20
2014 L: We lose a nailbiter in the cold slush, 14-17
2015 W: The "Nuke (FG) from Uke" as time expires was epic. NDAM out of playoffs.
2016 W: This time at Rockne's House WE get the Comeback, 17-10.
2017 W: We thrash them again in PA as a #9 rated Domer squad.
2018 L: #7 Stanford vs #8 Domers throttle us 38-17. We finish 9-4. They make the Playoffs at #3.
2019 L: Revenge by the Irish; they pound us 45-24.
2020: No game.
Not that long ago... we owned the Legends Trophy.
From 2000 to 2008, we only beat them once, but before that the series was more even.

There have been fears of a "lost decade" if the athletic administration decides to let Shaw and his staff go, with the clear danger that we end up with another Teevens/Harris tandem to coach the program into a sinkhole. As I have said, I think Shaw could possibly turn the program around, but not by sticking to his current ways. He would have to wake up one morning, stare at himself in the mirror and ask himself whether the success of the football program has priority over his personal loyalties to a clearly dysfunctional coaching staff (of which he is currently leader and, therefore, an integral part). If the answer is yes, he would have to don a new mantle that morning and set about hiring a crack staff (including S&C) that would bring heightened competitiveness and a sense of urgency to a moribund program. Three-star players would once again perform like 4-star players, the team would sense a renewed energy, get back to at least a .500 win percentage, make a lower tier bowl, attract better recruits in the next cycle, and the virtuous circle would continue. We saw that happen between 2007 and 2010. And Shaw is smart enough and experienced enough to make that happen, because he was there and knows what it takes. But will he do this?
Even if he is pressured to terminate Pritchard, Anderson and some other assistants, there is no guarantee he will have the will or the acumen to surround himself with a staff that can engineer a turnaround. Shaw appears to be one of those leaders who prefers to be the beloved father figure surrounded by loyal acolytes rather than the uncomfortable task-master insisting on superior performance from his staff and players. I am sure Shaw is a wonderful guy to work for; but if you want to win in a brutally competitive enterprise (e.g., NCAA division I football), you sometimes need to be a hard-nosed bastard. I don't think Shaw is that type of person nor would he surround himself with that type of coach. It would be too uncomfortable for him.
So if we think Shaw will be around at least through 2025 (i.e., another four seasons or so), does anybody really expect things to turnaround in that timeframe? It's not impossible. But, as mentioned, it would require our head coach to undergo a thorough transformation of temperament and make changes he has thus far been unwilling to make. If he does not change anything and continues down the current path, we will be 7 years into the lost decade before any new leader can take the reins. Yes, there is no guarantee that a change will bring in a second Harbaugh. But the current trajectory is already reminiscent of the Teevens/Harris half-decade of misery.
ORST just fired their DefCo mid-season. Shaw brings in... Robert Anae as OffCo from Univ of Virginia. He only makes $700K; State school.
When he was here Derek Mason was brilliant at DefCo; he makes $1.5M at Auburn. Get him.
Or Brad White the DefCo at Kentucky ($900K salary). Bring in some fresh blood. Not that expensive even with housing allowance.
