Patiently waiting for Watkins to release her list of finalists. Or is she going to go the Bueckers route and just announce her commitment without doing a final list. Her recruitment seems similar to Rice where it’s very hush hush and we are all clueless as to her favorites.
as i recall, rice had a list of favorites, and we were on it. at the end, we just weren't at the top.

Watkins among the 16 finalists for U17 team.
As is: Sunaja Agara 6'2", Sienna Betts 6'4" (only c/o 2025 finalist), Morgan Cheli, Hannah Hidalgo, and Kendall Dudley.
Very impressive by Betts, who seems poised to make the final roster given Delaney Thomas and Blanca Thomas were not among the finalists.

Seems like Agara is settling into a PF position (had previously seen her described as a G or W). She strikes me as having a similar game to Belibi (strong, good rebounder, can defend multiple positions) but is likely coming to Stanford as a much better shooter than Belibi

That's my impression of Agara, too, also based on who else made the cut—a lot of guards/wings and just 3 posts, so I'm assuming they're considering Agara as a PF option. Pretty impressive considering she appeared to have excellent guard skills in the earlier highlight reels after she first committed and before her apparent growth spurt. Could be another "point-forward" type

When Agara played in the nationally televised HS gave she played more 4 than anything.

Making the final 16 is impressive for all these players. Betts because she is so young. Hidalgo and Cheli because there was so much depth and talent at the PG and wing spots at these trials.

Big congratulations to Agara. I think she is under-ranked at #40 by HoopGurlz. They also list her as a 5'11" guard when she has grown into a 6'2" power forward. In his article on the trials, Mike Flynn called Agara a power player similar to Breya Cunningham with Agara having the ability to play outside as well. And getting a commitment from any of three of Watkins, Hidalgo or Cheli would be brobdingnagian.

Woo woo. Great to hear, and also that Siena Betts made the 16 cut. If we can land her and one of Hidalgo or Watkins (and Cheli, but I think we need her skill set less), we'll be in a really good place for the mid 2020s.

Shaylee Gonzales, who has had a marvelous career at BYU, is apparently entering the portal following their coaching change. Several times has her recruitment by Stanford out of HS been brought up in interviews of Shaylee and Tara, like when Shaylee scored 32 pts as a freshman against Stanford in the NCAA Tournament.
Shaylee would be an iconic late addition for Stanford. Fingers crossed. She redshirted her sophomore year at BYU due to injury thus has been enrolled there 4 years and could be eligible to start grad school next year with 2 more years of playing eligibility if using the COVID year.

Woo woo indeed. It would be a major boo boo not to pair Nunu with Juju -- all the other teams would look like doo doo and we'd have Nnopu.

Seems like a real long shot at this point. Pretty sure 2022-23 admissions decisions have already been made by all of Stanford's grad programs, with the possible exception of the MLA program. Not sure how that programs admission cycle works but it's moving from Continuing Studies to H&S this coming AY, so it's admission process/2022-23 schedule may have fallen in line with those for other schools and already closed. That said, we can always hope....

BYU freshman guard Shaylee Gonzales captured a lot of attention in scoring a game-high 32 points, with Stanford players serving notice to her great play. Turns out Stanford coach Tara Vanderveer recruited Gonzales to play for her program, and when asked about doing as much after the game, she responded with a smile that her recruiting efforts were, "Not hard enough."
"I think she's a special player," Vanderveer continued. "For a freshman to come into this atmosphere and against some real quality players that she played against, she's very poised. Her numbers speak for themselves."
Gonzales' numbers included 12-21 shooting from the field, and a perfect 4-4 from 3-point range."

Isn’t this putting the cart before the horse? We need a guard, so let’s get her an MFA seems a bit bass ackwards and to me represents a lot of what is wrong with the transfer portal.
If getting an MFA works with her “40-year” career plans, say because it would help with her aspirations to be a sports journalist, then great, and if she can help the basketball team, even better. But finding a graduate program for her just so she can play another year or two of basketball at Stanford kind of does a disservice to the “student” part of “student athlete”.
