Is this something the referees should call a technical foul on?
It is covered by the rules (Rule 10, Art. 4 Bench Technical Fouls), along with using gestures. Under the Points of Emphasis is Sporting Behavior/Conduct (which also specifically includes coaches going onto the playing court as improper). While the refs seem to be gleefully ignore some of the rules as written (which is ALSO a point of emphasis), I find it hard to believe that a ref would ignore one coach using "VULGAR" language toward another coach or player. If that happened, the refs should be reprimanded as well as the coach.
Did anyone WATCH/LISTEN the
Adia Barnes press conference where she said the stuff that people are extracting quotes out of. I did. She sounds reasonable. Her point was that the foul calls disrupted their momentum. She did NOT say they were improper calls or that the calls were made unfairly. She said her players need to adjust to the calls made by the officials. She did include facts such as 23 FT for one team and 10 FT for the other team (IIRC). She did say that a number of questionable calls went against her team.
That said, I didn't approve of her gesture last year (and, this year, if she did it again).
Anyone notice that the PAC-12(and thus ESPN) is only showing replay of the final credited basket by Oregon vs Arizona without showing the feet of the rebounder/shooter? The live video shows the foot on the line, but they zoomed in on the replay.
Just because officiating is hard doesn't mean that the officials' calls can't be pointed out.

I posted on this over in the Oregon/Arizona thread. Barnes and Graves and the officials all come out of this looking terrible.

Very important game tomorrow (Thursday, Jan 20, 2022 @ 4:30 PM PST):
***********************************************************
#3 Louisville (15-1) @ #4 NC State (16-2)
(TV: ESPN)
This is the only meeting between these 2 ACC frontrunners, so whoever wins this game
will most likely be the #1 seed of the Regional that will be paired with the Spokane Regional
(where Stanford is the most likely #1 seed) for one of the National Semifinals showdown.
I'm hoping for a Louisville win, but I think NC State will dominate this game.

Where is the final four this year? Hopefully away from North Carolina.

I have never really understood how regions vs seeding work for the NCAAW tournament. Is this saying that in current resume we are likely to be either the 2 or 3 seed overall along with the winner of the ACC and thus would meet up in the semi final, or is there something deeper with Geography going on someone can explain to me?

Didn't want to start a new thread so putting this here: How many of you know who "led her college team to three championships in the 1970s, scored the first points in the history of Olympics women's basketball and was the only woman to be officially drafted by the NBA."? Answer in this NPR story. May she rest in peace.

Harris. However in 1969 the Warriors drafted Denise Long from an Iowa HS
Yes the then NBA commissioner overruled the pick. Still she was drafted

Would that be the Bridgeport or Wichita regional? Whatever 1 seed ends up in Bridgeport is gonna have to deal with Uconn who will be a 3/4 seed but playing close to home. I concur with your prediction and am going with a big NC State victory tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing the NPR link. It was great! I have a vague recall of Harris as a kid, but only via Olympics. Between this and the thread on Tony Gwynn, a whole lot of edifying go on!

#15 Texas just beat #7 Iowa State, 66-48. A Texas victory that makes Stanford's loss look a bit better

Yes, you're in the same page as I am.
That's assuming South Carolina does not mess up in SEC play thus retaining their overall #1 seed, while Stanford dominates or simply wins the PAC 12 regular season.
Stanford will either be the overall #2 or overall #3 seed as the Spokane Regional #1 seed, while the top ACC team (at this point, either Louisville or NC State) will be the other #2 overall or #3 overall seed and the #1 seed in their Regional.
UNLESS Tennessee (currently 17-1 and ranked AP #5) continues its superb form, beats UConn at UConn and comes out either #1 (if they beat South Carolina in SEC play) or #2 in the SEC, they still have a chance to grab one of the Regional #1 seeds, and could be paired vis-a-vis Stanford's Regional #1 seed.
Two Possible scenarios:
*********************
#1 overall seed - South Carolina
#2 overall seed - Stanford
#3 overall seed - Louisville or NC State
#4 overall seed - Louisiville or NC State
#1 overall seed - South Carolina
#2 overall seed - Stanford
#3 overall seed - Tennessee
#4 overall seed - Louisville or NC State
#1 overall seed - South Carolina
#2 overall seed - Stanford
#3 overall seed - Louisville or NC State
#4 overall seed - Tennessee

Sheesh people. Has it not occurred to you guys that there is a lot of basketball left to play, and that Stanford could (and likely will) stumble in the PAC-12, conceivably enough to push us out of a top seed?

Hey, I am not overconfident about Stanford--I would actually be surprised if we get all the way through the Pac 12 and the Pac tournament unscathed. Yes, we could drop in seeding, absolutely.
But I am confident in one thing--UConn will not be a top seed, and that brings me great joy.
By the way....isn't it about time to either change the title of this thread or start a new one? It is not December anymore.....

Good call, 81. I think we could go with one thread for this season, unless it gets wildly up in page-thread-count. I'm generally a fan of more in one thread rather than lots of separate threads, unless others feel strongly to have different threads for each month?
