However softball has three players in Grad school playing in their covid year.

Stanford up 4-0 after one inning. At the risk of upsetting some God, I'm going to predict a run rule ending to this game.
Clements playing right field. What's up with that? She better have a big bat today because Stanford has to have a better fielder than her.
After two innings Canady looking good. Or maybe the batters for 20-24 Fresno State are making her look good? Announcer very complimentary toward Canady.
Announcer said temp is 89 degrees F.
5-0 after three innings. Some really nice defense. 3B Steele with fantastic diving catch

Stanford coasts to an easy 7-3 win over Fresno State to improve to 35-10 on the year
as part of a 4 game road stand. Next up, an Arizona State team that will be desperate
to win this series to maintain their hopes of a NCAA tourney bid (assuming it is very unlikely
they will win 1st Pac tourney).

Does anyone know why Canady was sidelined for part of the year? I am not sure she looks as sharp as she did at the beginning of the year.

I can't tell speed even at the game but she started Friday against cal and gave up just 2 hits

Stanford vs Arizona State at 6:00 pm PT on ASU livestream. ASU is 5-13 in conference and on an eight game losing streak. Phoenix temp currently 97 degrees F. Expected to be 96 degrees F at game time.

A critical series in Tempe has gotten off to a very poor start. A very poor bunt attempt after getting the leadoff on leads
to an empty half inning for Stanford.
Then, two unearned runs score on a throwing error at 2B in a 1st and 3rd steal and run-down.

Stanford has pulled two back and tied the game on agressive base-running, a sacrifice fly,
and taking advantage of a poor ASU defense.

Stanford takes a slim 3-2 lead on a hard ground ball that was somewhat controversially ruled a
multi-base error as opposed to a hit.
Cardinal won't care as they look to take Game #1.
Stanford's base running continues to buttress the Cardinal where other areas of the game
(offense, defense) have faltered. Emily Young singles, then baits a throw as part of a "run down"
to easily score Kaitlyn Lim and make it 4-2.

a dominant relief outing from NiJaree Canady. Card win 4-2.

Game 2 vs ASU at 5:00pm PT today.
I would start Krouse. At any sign of trouble bring in Canady. Depending on how many innings remaining maybe let Vawter pitch the final couple of innings. Vawter seems to be pretty durable. Vawter could pitch a few innings today and start tomorrow.
Ideally Krouse can go the entire game. The more Krouse pitches the more rest for Canady and Vawter.
For the balance of the regular season I like the idea of Canady pitching in relief rather than starting against teams I think Stanford can score runs. Tournament time a healthy Canady has to be in the starting rotation.

I agree with your strategy here Softball Fan. Krause has pitched great recently, and Vawter has pitched a lot of innings already (140+ innings), and we still have a whole series after this, Pac tourney, and NCAA tourney ahead. I have wondered in the last couple of starts (albeit against great hitting competition) whether the toll of the innings pitched so far has been heavier for Vawter. Among other things, Canady looked really fresh coming in relief.
