As many of you know, I post videos of selected Stanford sports on Youtube.  For basketball, volleyball, and the occasional football game, time is not a problem.  But baseball games are long and editing takes time because there are at least 17 breaks in a 9 inning game.  My current plan is to post games I think are interesting.  If there are specific games that interest you, just ask and I'll do my best.  You can post here, PM me, or email me: tonylima181@gmail.com.  (Yeah, I know, spammers, etc.  But that's trivial compared to what I'm going through right now.  Anyone ever had an e-mail account that did not receive some messages?  Mostly, of course, 2FA auth codes.)

Make that 5-0, sixth potential run thrown out at the plate for the third out.

Argh! The older I get, the grumpier I get when watching Stanford lose, especially after having a lead late in a game. 

Some questionable outfielder positioning led to 2 of their late runs, including the winning run from first base.

Both plays I recall involved the right fielder being shaded too far towards center field. One was in the bottom of the ninth. A defensive swing of sorts sent the ball high into shallow right field. Despite the RF and 2B running after it. The ball dropped right inside fair territory and a run scored. If the RF was positioned in "usual" position, he probably makes the out and no extra innings are needed. 

In the bottom of the 10th, they have a runner on first. The batter hits a deep line drive into right field some 15 yards from the foul line. The RF was so far towards center that by the time he got to the ball and threw it to the relay, who threw it to the catcher (these 2 throws were quick and on target), the runner was able to motor around the bases and barely beat the tag at the plate. The RF is closer to the line, and the runner is easily out or stops at third. 

This doesn't take into account 2 fielding errors (2b and 1b) that prolonged those innings. They also got a run after 2 consecutive wild pitches. Overall, not a great defensive performance.

What was great was a defensive out to end the bottom of the ninth. I thought it was a hit and game over. The LF runs towards center field full speed, dives, and barely catches the ball. ESPN top 10 type of play.

Good points.  And, of course, I agree that errors are bad.

Wasn't sure if Santa Clara was to be feared, but the close game indicates that they can get hot.  They're 12-13 on the season, but notably, they have a 3-1 record over kal this season...of which Stanford should be envious.  And they came close to nipping Stanford today too, but it was not enough from them!

Volchko gets his first career Friday night start.
The first time GT comes to California. They arrived last night and got a light workout in, and are 7-1 in road games this year.
Hopefully, we get the benefit of the cross-country travel stress on the other team, for a change.

I thought perhaps our pitching was returning to form today, giving up only 3 runs through seven innings. But now we've given up two more in the eighth with a runner on third and only one out. The offense has pounded out 9 hits, but only has 3 runs to show for it and has left 10 runners on base. The team is in a serious slump.
