I foolishly thought the USA’s COVID deniers might get an appreciation for the dangers with POTUS’ positive. I just didn’t imagine POTUS would work so hard to discount it AND transform it into some weird super power and badge of honor.
Given many SEC fans appear to be in the COVID denier club maybe Saban will do more for COVID awareness.
As Saban’s team had a number of summer cases I will assume most still have enough antibodies to avoid an outbreak that would cause a game postponement.
This has been a bad week and the looming wave seems certain to cause more COVID challenges.

It’ll play out however it plays out. I hope he recovers completely and quickly. But I feel any speculation about a “number of days” is misleading and attempts to make light of the serious risks. He just needs to focus on getting better and keeping his team, staff and community safe. I worry this reflects how widespread the transmission is there.

We should have done an over/under on the number of games that would be cancelled or postponed before they finally shut down the season. My estimate would have been well below 29 as I thought they'd put student health and public health first. But now I think it might be 300 games.

Suspending/postponing games is the right move for all kinds of reasons, but I'm not sure student health is very far up the list. I note you added
"public health" which makes sense . . . invoking the title of a semi-recent Annette Bening flick: The Kids Will Be All Right.

Oh my God, it would have been BRILLIANT to have teams disqualified from the CFP if they couldn't keep their players, coaches, and staff safe. Positive test, you're out! You can still play for your conference championship, though, SEC teams.

The problem with penalizing people for turning positive is that it creates a strong incentive not to get tested (*cough* Lindsey Graham *cough*). Maybe you could have a standardized with mandated testing, almost like PED testing, but the incentive to cheat would be enormous.

Death Penalty (SMU style) for any team caught cheating. All testing will be done by the Trump administration to ensure that numbers are accurate (lol).

This is so dumb. If he had a positive PCR test, it was no false positive, and that automatically means 7 days minimum, no matter what. Several negative PCR tests is some made up criterion. It's better than if he had several positive tests but it hardly means he isn't contagious. Just real real dumb.

Just from the article it seems it was a PCR test, but hard to say for certain. And a false positive for those should be nearly impossible without some gross error in the process.

Certainly contamination or an error in sample labels could explain it. I would expect that PCR tests done on a "small scale" may have more problems with these types of problems than those done in larger labs. Possibly less experienced technicians and possibly no negative control. The big labs have both a negative and positive control in each run, but I am not sure a "one off" always would.

Technically by the guidelines (spaced 6 ft apart. I assume tables are their own pods). While I wouldn't attend such a situation with all the unknown, I hope they help prove that that (6ft+outdoors) is enough to minimize transmission.
