3 wins. Lolich Lou Burnette, Gibson
And Randy Johnson. No I didn’t peek. Of course bet more if you go to pre WW2

1903. In a best of nine game World Series Deacon Phillippe won his third decision to give the Pirates the Series lead. The Red Sox made a remarkable recovery and captured four out of five to win. Bill Dinneen of the Sox won his third victory of the Series in Game Nine.

I'm fairly sure that Randy Johnson had three WS wins for Arizona, the third coming in relief in Game 7? (I see you had that, too, BobK.)

Gibson's was excellent, 19 base runners and a home run for a 0.704 WHIP and just three earned runs in 27 innings for a 1.00 ERA in 1967. But I'd vote for Christy Mathewson of the Giants. In 1905 they played in the World Series against Connie Mack's A's, which had gone 92-56 and had three Hall of Fame starters (Ed Plank, Rube Waddell and Chief Bender). Mathewson went 3-0 against, all shutouts. In 27 innings pitched, he gave up one walk, and 13 hits, for a 0.519 WHIP. In a
five game World Series that the Giants won 4-1, Mathewson threw three shutouts.
Funny postscript -- noted screwball Rube Waddell went 27-10 during the season and led the American League in wins, ERA, strikeouts, fewest hits per nine innings and most strikeouts per nine innings. He didn't pitch in the World Series, however. Just before the WS, he decided he didn't like rookie Andy Coakley's straw hat (Coakley went 18-8), and Waddell injured his pitching shoulder trying to wrestle the hat off of Coakley's head.
I'd say that's at least in the conversation for best World Series performance by a starter.

Bobbbbb, you got me thinking about Sherry. My first WS as a 13 year old loading 35mm magazines for my father in a tunnel well overhang in the LA Coliseum. So I looked him up. He appeared in four games of the six game Series. Two saves, one run in 12 and 2/3. Was the series MVP.

Not sure, but they must have been electric.

Former SF Seal Eddie Sawdoski was a Catcher and had a brother but World Series and all star. Nope.

Time's up. Mort and Walker Cooper. The Sherrys' Larry and Norm were the first pair of Jewish players to form a battery. Norm and Koufax were second.

Not THAT guy. Instead Anthont Desclarfini. (Spelling?). Typical Farhan gambit. Had bad 2020. But good “peripherals”. And a solid 2019. Fairly low risk (1 year 6 Million) with potentially quasi-high reward. Right now no 3 starter behind Gausman and Cueto. Webb 4. They need a lefty. Suarez won’t be it. He’s off to play in Korea.

Did Smyly NOT want to play for the Giants? Just curious as to why that re-sign didn't happen.

Smyly signed for $11 M one year with Atlanta. Far move than the Giants offered

Smily born in Little Rock so roots in the South. Plus a contender if not the favorite in their division.
