Also disagree. ERA's misleading for relief pitchers. Baragar's WHIP (walks+hits per innings pitched) is 1.385, worst in the bullpen except for Jose Alvarez. He's been exceedingly lucky.

Results are what count. I don't know or care about WHIP. Some great pitchers could beat you 1-0 and they also could beat you 6-5. I can tell you my W/L record from high school through college thru high level semi pro but I have no idea what my ERA was in any of those years.
It's like most everything else you (youth) vs me (aged). Values different and that's what makes this stuff fun.

After today's 6-1 win, Giants are 34-20, 2nd best record in baseball, best in NL, lead the Padres by 1/2 game and Dodgers by 2.5 games. Incidentally, the Giants own the tiebreaker over the Padres by virtue of a 5-4 record vs. the Padres this season. After 54 games, the Giants were 29-25 (2010), 30-24 (2012) and 35-19 (2014).
Slater's been pinch-hitting a lot lately, and the former Stanford star let Kapler know he wasn't wild about his playing time selections (Kapler mentioned it in the post-game interview today, Slater has said nothing publicly). Slater's doing much better that Dickerson and Tauchman, not as good as Duggar or Ruf (who's injured). Slater and Yaz are doing about as well as each other.
Anyway, the formula seems to be working.

Baragar went something like 25 straight appearances (both ‘20 and ‘21) without giving up a run. (Which at the end of the day is what matters) He’s walked a few too many. Which explains the WHIP. But he’s been one of their most effective relievers.

Slater’s splits are telling. If he wants to play more he needs to prove he can hit right handers. He also needs to cut down his strikeouts.
Dickerson has been disappointing. Yaz as well. Kapler is waiting for them to get hot. He’s going to keep running them out there - especially vs right handed pitching.
Hoping they didn’t lose Longoria today. No one is hitting the ball harder. And he’s played a good defensive 3B. To lose him for a stretch would hurt. Badly.
As for the bullpen in general, it’s an issue. I think they are close to the point where they can think about adding. Taylor Rogers (Twins) would be a nice addition. And perhaps not that costly.

Speaking of pitching, the Giants acquired Sam Delaplane (formerly of Leigh HS in San Jose). Great arm, great minor league stats, #24 in Seattle's top 30 prospects...and underwent Tommy John surgery.

Not politics. Personal. He would walk into a bar or eatery and expect to be comped. Arrogant bastard. His motto, "Anybody can pay." Had a forum to belittle his enemies. Ruined a couple of businesses with poor reviews after getting the "No" answer. Mr. San Francisco not even a native.

Out of curiosity, can you name some of the bars/eateries that he wrote poor reviews after the "no" answer? I was a fan of his writing, but I could sense a mean streak...always thought it was the same mean streak that any professional gossip had.

I don't think so. I know that Stanton and Laddie didn't have any kids. Stanton died in the late 1990s, Laddie in 2012.

I would not have “gotten it” without the list you provide. I do remember Stanton Delaplane. As well as Sullivan, McCabe and of course, Caen. If by Bobby Stevens you are talking about the great giants beat writer, him as well. Never heard him referred to as Bobby. But then I didn’t know him as you did. And, all us Bobs are Bobby to some….

Casali's hitting .105. Joey Bart's hitting .378 in the PCL, OPS over 1.000. The Giants wanted Bart to have 200-300 ABs, and he's only had 45 -- and struck out in 30% of them.

Maybe Farhan knew what he was doing. To me, steps like declining to pay Kevin Pillar $10 million annually indicated that he wouldn't do the desperate moves. The cupboard was essentially bare when Farhan took over. Aging stars, virtually every minor league team finished in last or second to last place, first round picks that were comparative failures, two terrible season records.
Very quickly, Farhan and Scott turned it around. New coaching staff, all the teams in the minors save one turned it around, the aging stars started to hit again -- every starter in the field in 2019 had career years except one who had their second best year. They cut bloated salaries, they brought in short term help, they identified under-recognized players (Yastrzemski) that they brought into the fold. They brought in high-ceiling starting pitchers on bargain deals. And they brought in a smart, highly underrated manager.
And now, they are tied for the best record in MLB. They are winning because they have no weaknesses. They have the best fielding defense (fewest errors), they have the #9 OPS and #8 most runs scored in MLB, they have the #6 ERA and the #5 WHIP. They're #19 in batting average, but #8 in OPS, reflecting their coaching. Their strength of schedule is about average at #18/
As for the future, all of their mega-deal salaries come off their books this year except for Longoria. I think the Giants have a bright future.
