RE: Class of 2024+ - Lorcan - 09-12-2023

Ivy Player of the Year, Kaitlyn Chen looking to use her grad transfer year somewhere in 2024-2025. While I'm not sure we need more guards, it's worth keeping an eye on her to see if any serious interest develops with Stanford.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 09-12-2023

I’m far more In Favor of a top 10 HS recruit. Thanks for the info but…..

ivy players of the year can be very good. thinking now of abby meyers, who went from princeton to maryland in 2022, then was drafted #11 in the wnba. of course, there's allison feaster, too.

Her stats look good. If she's interested in Stanford, I hope we can land her.

For those in the LA area wanting to see Kaitlyn Chen up close Princeton WBB will play UCLA at Pauley Pavilion Nov 17.  I believe Princeton scheduled the game as a homecoming for Chen who grew up in San Marino and attended Flintridge Preparatory Academy.

RE: Class of 2024+ - OCcardinal - 09-12-2023

A couple of encouraging quotes from our WBB commits about playing in the ACC (per an article I saw on the Rivals site):

“All this conference realignment has been crazy to watch but to land in the ACC is awesome! To have the opportunity to play against some of the best teams in the country night in and night out is a great thing!”-2024 4-star PG Shay Ijiwoye (Women’s Basketball)

“I am very excited that Stanford will be a part of the ACC. I think it’s a great opportunity to travel to other schools outside the West Coast areas. I’m also very excited that I will be able to play in my hometown, Atlanta. Majority of my family lives in Atlanta, however I know we will be traveling to Duke and I have family near Duke, too. So I’m really looking forward to joining the ACC as a Cardinal.”-2025 5-star PG Hailee Swain (Women’s Basketball)

RE: Class of 2024+ - Card10Fan - 09-15-2023

2024 Recruiting update from ESPN:

"Jordan Lee will likely choose between the likes of Duke, South Carolina, Stanford, and Texas."

"Joyce Edwards has trimmed her recruiting list to Stanford, LSU, South Carolina, Clemson, Maryland, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Texas A&M."

Hoping they both take official visits on campus this fall. Being in the ACC maybe beneficial for Edwards as we will be making trips east often including to her home state of SC (where Clemson is located).

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 09-15-2023

Koval in a story yesterday listed four schools Stanford being one.
I so hope Tara what’s more than just one more

RE: Class of 2024+ - joemontes - 09-15-2023

Well, 6'0 SG Jordan LEE (#8 overall) plus either 6'2 PF Joyce EDWARDS (#2 overall)
or 6'4 C Kateryna KOVAL (#5 overall)
should pretty much seal the deal for Stanford's recruiting class of 2024....

Any combination of the two plus our current commits would be a top 3 class. Maybe even top overall. Let’s go!!

Joe, do you have any reason to believe that Jordan Lee has a higher probability of committing than either Joyce Edwards or Kateryna Koval?

I am holding out hope for all 3 plus Blakes or Heckel.  I think we should max out our scholarships every year.  Yes the transfer portal means some people may leave but that is a risk regardless.  The challenge for us is that we can’t really get transfers in so why not max out at 15 scholarships.  Even if you lose 2-3 players to transfers every year, you still have 12-13 players the next year which is more than enough depth.  If Tara only wants to fill 12 scholarships, we could still lose 2-3 players for various reasons and then we’d be stuck with a depth problem the next year.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 09-16-2023

I so agree with you Bos Card on the 15 always

I mentioned that not in terms of probabiiities but in term of what Stanford needs
to continue to flourish post-BRINK.

Some pundits opine that player rankings don't matter, but beyond the anomaly
of Stanford's 2017 Final Four team which did not feature any Top 10 player
(highest was 2013 #11 Erica McCALL, followed by 2014 #25 Brittany McPHEE)
ALL the other Stanford Final Four teams in the 21st century had
at least 2 Top 10 players:

- during the 2008-2012 5-year Final Four run plus the 2014 Final Four team,
they had WIGGINS, APPEL, PEDERSEN, the OGWUMIKE sisters and TINKLE.

- and recently (2020 national champion and 2021 Final Four team)
they had Haley JONES, BRINK and Kiana WILLIAMS.

I can't find any online  player rankings data for the 1990-1992 and
1995-1997 Stanford Final Four teams, but I would guess that the likes
of Jennifer AZZI, Sonya HENNING, Val WHITING and Rachel HEMMER
were all Top 10 players while Kate STARBIRD, Jamila WIDEMAN,
Kristin FOLKL and Olympia SCOTT were definitely Top 10 players.

So for the coming years, I would say 2024 #8 Jordan LEE at SG
plus either #2 Joyce EDWARDS or #5 Kateryna KOVAL at the post
would be a logical Top 10 combination.

As for the upcoming season, well, Stanford still has 2020 #3 BRINK
while 2021 Brooke DEMETRE was #11 by ESPN but #7 by Prospect Nation,
so I guess there's still hope?

Yes, agreed.

The big problem with transfers is they announce their transfer far too late in the season to allow their slots to be immediately filled (at Stanford.)  They cannot immediately be filled with transfers-in since it takes so long and so much planning to arrange a transfer-in.  And they cannot be filled immediately with more recruits, since recruiting season is essentially over and all the best players are committed by then.  So each transfer-out creates a 16 month hole in the roster.

Since transfers could strike at any time, far better to top-up the roster to 15 whenever possible, since losing a few from 15 is a lot better than losing a few from 12.

Hopefully a variety of factors and rules changes will reduce the number of transfers, but in the meantime, recruit the maximum at every chance.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 09-17-2023

Actually the portal for a non grad is not open during the season. Next year can be a covid year again not for spring sports but fall and winter. However a one time transfer must sit out a year if transferring again. Of course Stanford has no transfers
We could have an awesome 2024 class

RE: Class of 2024+ - CompSci87 - 09-17-2023

I've updated the ESPN HoopGurlz and Prospects Nation rankings of the players who are still possible. Many got quite a bump up since last time. A few did drop.
