Smoltz is the pitcher. Only one in history with 200 wins and 150 saves. Infamous Doyle Alexander trade.
The other an infielder. He’s closely connected as a teammate to another HOF infielder that was moved to outfielder. Both had over 3000 hits.

Of course, it may not a good idea to pick one of the weakest HOF members and set that as the bar. That arguably could open the doors too much...
Tommy John is the #53 ranked pitcher by career WAR. There's 43 pitchers in the HoF with worse WAR than Tommy John (not including former pitchers who were inducted for being a great umpire or manager). 41 of the 48 HoF-eligible pitchers (not including Kershaw, Scherzer, Verlander or Greinke) in front of him are in the HoF. The seven not in include Roger Clemens (#3 overall), Curt Schilling (#26), Jim McCormick (#29, only played 10 seasons, only five were great), Kevin Brown (#36), Rick Reuschel (#37), Luis Tiant (#44) and Bobby Matthews (#52, most of his career was in Amer Assn or National Association).
In between Kaat and TJ are Marichal, McGinnity, Drysdale, Waddell, Bunning, Newhouser, Koufax, Rixey, Brown, Rivera, Ruffing, Hoyt, Ford, Wynn, Wilhelm, Paige. After Kaat are Pennock, Dizzy Dean, Jack Morris, Lefty Gomez, Charles Bender, Gossage, Lemon, Catfish Hunter, Marquard and a bunch of relievers.

One of the biggest injustices is Schilling. Yes, he’s a jerk But he’s is largely out due to his political statements. Won’t discuss those - other than to say I disagree completely with him. Don’t condone his comments. But that should not be a consideration in voting. He is not tied to steroids a la Clemens.
Schilling was a dominant pitcher in his day. He should be in the HOF.

Agree on Schilling.
He's a jerk and pissed off a lot of writers (who are now HOF voters) but the Hall of Fame shouldn't be run like the Miss Congeniality contest.

Shouldn’t be. But it is. No other way to explain David Ortiz vs Bonds/Clemens.

You can introduce Jeff Kent to the HoF at the same time. Pre-PEDS, Bonds should have been a shoe in with his four MVPs (three were post-PEDS). 15 All Star teams. Career leader in HRs, walks and intentional walks. Led league in walks 12 times, HRs just twice...apart from his 73 HR season, he never had a 50 HR season. Led league in OBP 10 times, slugging 7 times, OPS nine times.
Let's add Shoeless Joe Jackson to the HoF. He had the second highest career batting average in MLB history, who supposedly admitted that he bet on the 1919 world series. Every betting player on that team tanked...not Jackson. Jackson -- who never had any formal schooling, not even first grade -- signed a document that he didn't understand, and he didn't have legal representation. He hit .375 in the World Series, and led all starters on both teams in OPS. He had better statistics in the World Series than he did during the regular season, which is very difficult to do...just ask Willie Mays (and a bunch of others).
Throw in Pete Rose, MLB career leader in hits, games, plate appearances and at bats. 17x All Star. Immensely disliked early on by team and league management because he socialized regularly with black players. Yeah, bet on baseball and bet on his teams. So did other players, including Cobb and Speaker.
Let's add Lefty O'Doul. Third highest career MLB batting average. SIngle handedly popularized baseball as a sport in the Far East.
All of them should be in the Hall of Fame, because it's not the Hall of Really Swell Guys Who Never Did Anything Wrong (or Never Got Caught). Cesar Cedeno, who was convicted of murdering a woman, was eligible for the HoF

Curious if even Phogge gets this one…. I looked it up. I think I know part 2. But I hadn’t heard of the guy who is the oldest player.
I do think it’s fitting that Willie is the oldest living HOF player.
