I've seen it happen so many times. You blow out a weak team the first two sets and then lose the third set. Stanford may still win set 3 but not looking so good at the moment.

Virginia, not Virginia Tech. Stanford takes set 4, so fortunately not much momentum there. Not a great day for the pins. Harvey hit -0.05; Kurt just over 0. Rubin was decent, but the stars again were the middle blockers.

UVA fought well considering they were down four starters - saw two boots and a knee contraption. We almost pulled out the third set but then a challenge and reversal did it.

Harvey plus one of Kurt and Blyashov have to play better for this team to really go anywhere in the post season. So far it isn’t really happening this year - at least not with any consistency. If they have an off passing day and can’t get the ball to the middles like set 3 today, they will get crushed. Pins can’t hit their way out of it.
Front row makes a lot of poor choices to take a ball from a better positioned and more skilled back row player by the way. Kurt is an especially bad offender.

You nailed it. In 2028 Stanford needs a tall athletic OH who can consistently take big swings at OOS sets.

The score of the first set is not an indication of how Stanford is playing. Virginia Tech is absolutely dreadful. They should apply to play in a D2 conference.
You can't look at score or stats to evaluate Stanford's play in this one. Virginia Tech will be in a contest for last place in conference. It will be interesting to see how Stanford does against Louisville at Maples.

Stanford 15-14 in set 2. I can't recall Stanford playing this poorly. I understand they aren't motivated for this match, but that's not an excuse for mistake after mistake.
One of Tech's players did an engineering internship for Boeing and got a full time offer after she graduates. I like it.

Funny contrast in announcing teams these last 2 days. We went from massive UVA homers announcing volleyball for dummies to fairly balanced for volleyball hardcore nerds today. I really enjoyed the announcing team a lot this game though his counterpart was a bit dazed and confused. Not sure how you confuse Parks for Sayers minus the jersey numbers are close.
Anyway, yeah Stanford wins in a pretty low energy game almost completely devoid of defense or blocking. Rubin rests which is fine. Announcer was dead on - Parks setting was erratic today, though she served well. Not sure there was much to learn from this one. It’s a win.
