Re: Introductions - CornFed - 01-17-2015

It's mostly like the comedy improv show, "Whose Line Is It Anyway".  Everything is made up and the points don't matter!

(I'll probably get some down votes for saying "everything is made up".  I didn't say it, OK?  It's the tag line of the show.  I just wanted to get a lighter Karma going about karma points.)

Re: Introductions - winflop - 02-11-2015

1980s grad here, joined after getting a little tired of the same old, same old on the Bootleg boards.  I've had football season tix since 1998 when I moved back to the Bay Area, and I had MBB season tix for a while but dropped those a few years ago when family schedules changed and I got a lot less interested with the quality of play on the court (not the quality of players).

My hopes for Stanford sports in 2015:
- another Director's Cup and maybe a Capital One Cup or two as well
- football changes the gameplan and playcalling to fit the personnel.  If the defense can sustain this is a team that could challenge for a playoff spot
- MBB gets a new head coach
- WBB rights the ship next season and gets back to being the Beast of the West

My Stanford history:
- Madera (frosh).  Now named Junipero
- Toyon (soph). Friends with World Figure Skating Champion Debi Thomas.  Can you say Thumper Night?
- Whitman (junior & senior)
- Majored in Math Sciences with Honors in Statistics

Hi Winflop! I have seen you in the Twittersphere before so nice to see you here. Welcome to the board.

Hi Winflop. Welcome!

Re: Introductions - JJJ - 06-19-2015

Hi Everyone,
1985 grad introduced here by leftcoast. I've only just begun reading here so please be patient with all my faux pas. IE major, lived in Roble 3yrs, then off-campus. Attended many football/basketball/baseball games while on campus (best job ever was getting paid to watch baseball games and ensuring that foul balls were returned to the field!), but only the occasional homecoming game at reunions since. Having to make do with viewing parties the rest of the time.
Hoping this forum will help me make it through the Cardinal-less summer months!

Re: Introductions - CornFed - 06-19-2015

Welcome JJJ!  Hopefully your faux pas (what is the plural of that - faux pez?  faux pass?) will draw attention away from those that I commit fairly regularly.  But if nothing else you will perhaps learn a number of alternative histories of the Civil War.  Good luck and God bless.

The plural is identical, je crois.

Re: Introductions - Leftcoast - 06-19-2015

Welcome, JJJ.  Good to have a fellow "Class of 85er" on board.

Summer is the sports silly season where almost anything may come up as we all gear up for the start of the football season and (to quote the line from Casablanca), "wait .... and wait .... and wait".  We haven't had a good Civil War discussion for a while nor a replay of the 15 year ago debate on Uma vs Dana.  On the other hand there has been a rousing discussion of gourmet coffee roasting and grinding as well as a discussion of best songs of 2015 thus far.    You know, typical sports stuff.

Thanks Lefty. I may be in well over my head. Best to be quiet for a while as I figure out the lay of the land!

Faux pez? - Redrum - 06-19-2015

I've actually had faux Pez...  In Greece/Turkey.  Eons ago.  The dispensers were laughably bad knockoffs, but that's why we bought the things.  Come to think of it, the non-faux dispensers are no mechanical wonders.  The little pez candy blocks looked like they were made by hand with butter knives without benefit of molds...each piece was different.

Welcome JJJ.

And for anyone else with a Roble connection, feel free to become a member of https://www.facebook.com/groups/18621693619/ - I know JJJ is there already.

Thanks Robbie, and good to see you here. Always a bonus when you see a familiar face. And thanks for the facebook mention too!

Thank you garvin. Is it just me or is there a larger proportion of Robleites represented here than would be expected otherwise? I was 3A (frosh quad), 3A (triple), and 3-Center (single) before going off-campus my unguaranteed year.

Re: Introductions - BostonCard - 06-20-2015

I was an honorary Robleite after I graduated.  My girlfriend (now wife) lived there her senior year.

The only thing that sucks worse than Roble is Biz :P

Re: Introductions - Nan3cy - 06-21-2015

Wait a second here. In order to have truly lived in Roble, you have to have lived in Roble when it was all freshman women who were served their meals by white-coated hashers in the dining hall and had to be back in the dorm by 10:30 at night in order not to be locked out. You folks are all poseurs.

Re: Introductions - washingtonismoney - 06-21-2015

Surely, however, we can all agree:

Branner sucks.
