Thanks John for the updates and the video link. I watched the second set. Australia had the appearance of being defeated before the game was over. With Sorra/Glagau beating Thailand I wonder if the Thai team got the #1 seed because the tournament is in Thailand. I'm ok with that. The #1 seed still has to win on the court.

I don't know if this applies to this tournament, but I believe in other FIVB beach events, if a team from the host country would normally be seeded in the top 8 (?), it is moved up to #1. So that may be in play here.

BTW, the winner of the quarterfinal match will play in a semifinal at 1:00am tonight; potentially against the other American team, Kraft/Maple.

Hodel/Reily do get past Glagau/Sorra 21-13, 19-21, 15-12. They meet Kraft/Maple at 1am in one semifinal.
Hodel/Reilly are the highest seeded team still standing; but I expect Kraft/Maple to be formidable opponents.
Glagau & Sorra finish tied for 5th. A very respectable showing for two 16-year olds, who came through the qualifier.

Hodel/Reilly lose 21-17, 21-15 to Kraft/Maple.
H/R will play for the bronze medal at 9:00pm tonight, vs. Ukraine.

Hodel/Reilly lost 15-21, 19-21. The first set was tied 14 all (IIRC), and then the Ukrainians took over. Second set was obviously close, too.

Despite the weather on campus I'm getting pumped up for beach volleyball. Here are the majors of the players who have declared their major.
Maddie Dailey (Junior): Neurobiology / Biomedical Informatics (MS) Does (MS) mean she is getting a masters degree while working on her BS.
Charlie Ekstrom (Senior): Architectural Design Wasn't that the same major as Andrew Luck?
Zeena Khazendar (Junior): Human Biology Future doctor?
Maddie Kriz (Junior): Biochemistry and Biophysics Future scientist?
Jordan McKinney (Senior): Neurobiology / Biology (MS) Another player working on BS and MS?
Ten rising freshmen/sophomores who haven't declared their major yet.

I read articles this is the fastest growing sport in the country. Hard to believe because it's climate oriented. IMO there is a good chance Stanford will be in Gulf Shores, Alabama for the NCAA playoffs.

All of the high schools in South Florida are starting to field teams. My DD is playing as a freshman for the first time this year.

Yes, and Bass fishing may be growing faster than beach volleyball. The articles I read were in the context of NCAA sanctioned varsity college sports.

I've been waiting for the 2022 schedule to come out. Not yet. But USC's is out, Stanford will be at USC on March 6th, and will host the Trojans on April 9th. That will be part of the "Pac-12 North Invitational" (4/9-10), which will also involve Cal, Arizona, and Oregon.
LBSU also has their schedule: Stanford will play them early on 3/6 (7:30 am!); and be at Stanford on April 2 (along with Santa Clara).
And Pepperdine's schedule shows Stanford, Pepperdine, and Houston Baptist at TCU April 15th & 16th.

Thanks for posting. It will be a tough non-conference schedule. I believe Stanford is up to the task.
USC sent an email to all its students that spring semester may be 100% remote for the entire semester. They will make a decision by the end of the year. If USC goes full remote, I doubt their beach vb team will be able to have a season.
Omicron may blow up all of college spring sports.

Coach Andrew Fuller has been in Manhattan Beach coaching the USAV Beach (Women's) U19 team the last week.
I assume those young women are all already enrolled or committed, so perhaps no immediate effect on recruiting (except transfers?).
But good exposure for him and the Stanford program.

You keep saying that, but there is no prohibition to talking about COVID in the context of collegiate athletics, especially Stanford sports. In this case, this is directly relevant to a Stanford beach volleyball team, so I’m not sure why you think it would not be allowed.

Some of the current recruits / "committed to the application process-ers" are there, so at a minimum, this provides an opportunity to interact more closely. I know Clara Stowell, for example, was there.

Past week; Manhattan Beach? Nothing but rain, cold, and windy weather. I've been visiting relatives nearby. I hope Coach Fuller and the USA beach development program found some indoor facility to practice at like the gym in this video.
It's too bad rules prevent Clara Stowell with her beach scholarship from playing indoors. At 6'2" and playing with a top indoor club, she could help the indoor team.
I'm liking Fuller more and more as time goes on. Stanford beach volleyball could be on a trajectory for a future NC.
