I just can't participate in Cardboard comments during a game -- I'm too focused on watching, particularly this one! And then after, we took a celebratory walk. Tonight, will be drinking a really good wine from the 1990 vintage to celebrate. What a team.
But I keep thinking -- in a way, both teams won. Stanford gets the W, and the trophy and the title. But for Arizona, this tournament was really a win as well. And definitely for the Pac -12. What a day, what a tournament!!!!!

Amazing that Stanford was able to navigate Covid exposure and avoid injuries all the way to the championship. So many times in the past, Stanford has had the talent to win it all, but lost key players to injury.
I picked a good season to watch every Stanford womens' basketball game. Didn't miss a game. Doubt I will miss any games going forward. I love watching our team.

I'm with you on that! I walked over to Il Fornaio for a celebratory dinner with, of course, some Cardinal-red wine.

Didn't watch a ton of women's hoops this year (and even less men's). Turned the game on about half way through the 3rd quarter, with Stanford up by 10, 41-31. Blame me for the ugly basketball down the stretch, with nine turnovers and only 13 points, but at least they held on for the win. Wow.
Echo the comments on Tara. Very happy for her and the team. Congrats.

I don't see myself being invested in the NC run too much, but do identify with the student-athletes. In this case, I also agree that I didn't feel euphoria, but instead relief. It would have been somewhat crushing to lose.
We were 15 years into the streak when Tara last one a NC. Wow.

They say defense wins championships and our defense has been great all year. It isn't as flashy as Arizona's defense with the deflections and turnovers, BUT it is just as effective. Our scouting report knew where McDonald wanted to be (going left) and whenever she went there she was met by 3 Stanford defenders. The last play really summarized our defense. Not a steal. But we knew who was going to shoot the shot and she had 3 defenders in her face.

I made that mistake in our national semi-final against Maryland about a decade ago. I was on the treadmill while we played, and while I ran something like 12 miles, I also gave myself a stress fracture because I completely lost track of any pain I might have been feeling until after the end.

I wonder what the players who could have been on the team are thinking... Carrington, Dodson, and Moschkau. I'm sure they are happy that they are advancing their academic interests, but I would have a bit of "wish I was a part of it" in me too. Not many people can say they were national collegiate champions.

Arizona disrupted our offense through most of the game; but, they did it to everyone they played. Not just us.
But nobody was able to stop Arizona's offense and Aari McDonald the way Stanford did. That was the most significant difference

That's probably fair, and a good point about an offensive rebound being there for the taking. And while I get wanting to put the ball in the hands of your best player at the end of the game, I was surprised that they basically told McDonald to try to beat Stanford by herself. There were no screens, no penetration, no nothing. It was just dribble a bit and throw the ball up and hope you win.
You can't blame Barnes when she put together one of the best game plans against Stanford this season. But still, that was not an especially well designed play.

I'll bet Colorado's team is feeling good about themselves tonight.
I won't miss McDonald running into our players going 90 mph and then flopping like she was clubbed. She hurt two of our players tonight with that tactic, Anna and Lexie.

It's funny that there are fans of other teams saying the refs handed us the game. How is that possible when Arizona shot 18 free throws and we shot only 2? Near the end, Arizona's offense was have McDonald run into a Stanford player and get free throws.
