The Sooners have no one tall enough to guard her. We have Brink, Prechtel, Belibi, and Kiki. I doubt she could score like that against Stanford.
Good for her for setting the record. It was an amazing accomplishment.

I watched part of that game, an astonishing performance. I kept wondering if it was going to be some sort of record. Considering that her team was not ranked and Oklahoma was 14 it was even more remarkable. I am glad we did not play her today. Massey had Kansas State at 20--once again the computer seems more accurate (given the time of the season) than the polls which overlooked teams like Kansas State and Oregon.
For Lee, in addition to those 61 points, had 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 steal, no turnovers -- all in 35 minutes. All I can say is WOW!

I wonder why the coach had her in to score 6 points in the last 4 minutes when her team won by 29 points.
6'6" vs a team in which only one starter (6'2") was over 5'11". The tallest player for Oklahoma is 6'3".
(OK vs ranked teams: Loss to Oregon, Iowa State; Win over BYU, Baylor)
Height alone doesn't make a good player, but it can help a single player dominate the scoring.
She's scored a bunch of points against teams whose tallest players were 3 or 4 inches shorter than her.

How is the SEC conference determined regarding uneven numbers of games played? Tennessee is currently 7-0, SC 5-1, Ol Miss 5-1, Florida and LSU are 5-2. Perhaps Staley is genuinely concerned that they might lose the SEC if they play too few games?
On the other hand, the game they are making up was from Jan 2. Surly they could have figured out the scheduling far early than a few days before the game with UConn. Scheduling has become so fluid that I begin to have suspicions that may or may not be justified.
And it is important to note that they already played and beat UConn in the Bahamas this season, so this would be a second match up.
South Carolina has one game against Tennessee in February that is looming, and another game against Ol Miss down the stretch.

It's definitely very interesting the situation that has developed surrounding this reworking of the schedules. I respect Dawn for prioritizing an SEC title over the matchup with UConn. Word on the street is that this was the only date that Ole Miss was able to come down to Columbia to make up the game against South Carolina. My understanding is that the conference title will go to the team with the best winning percentage in the regular season. This means that even if South Carolina were to beat Tennessee this year, they could lose the title based on winning percentage if they play and win less games even if each team has the same number of losses.
With that being said, the reports I've seen thus far have been fairly clear in the fact that this cancellation request came from Dawn Staley and the South Carolina program. That is to say, UConn is NOT dodging South Carolina. They are now travelling to face a tough DePaul team on Wednesday, 1/26. It's also worth pointing out that South Carolina and UConn have already played this season in the Bahamas when UConn was healthy -- so it's not like they've not played at all this season.
With that being said, it's nice to see that our win over Tennessee (admittedly they were without Rae Burrell) is holding up at the moment. There were definitely some shockers today as Florida continues to confound everyone by standing at 5-2 in the SEC after a win over Kim Mulkey's Louisiana State.
It's been good to see the Pac-12 having more games this weekend than some other weekends in recent memory. Arizona State surprising Colorado was a mildly unexpected event, but nothing else truly out of the ordinary thus far.

Geno probably breathed a sigh of relief, thinking "whew, we avoided being at the receiving end
of a massacre (considering that they are still without BUECKERS and AZZI)..."
It will be interesting to see how they will fare against DePaul, their strongest Big East rival,
without BUECKERS and AZZI. I would like to be able to watch this one, potentially
has the makings of a nailbiter....

My suspicions about Oregon State are based on something Tara said last year--that we had offered to make up the game that was cancelled then but that Oregon State was unwilling at that time. I can't remember the exact words but I definitely got the impression that Oregon State just didn't want to do it heading into the tournament.
Tara has respect and good relationships with so many coaches in this league and elsewhere--but this is not the first time I have been led to wonder about Rueck.

While people are entitled to their suspicions, we have little idea of what is actually going on behind the scenes. It’s entirely possible that Stanford is on a pause or taking extra care after the California game without needing to announce it because they haven’t had to cancel a game. I’d point out that Stanford also could have added a game against Washington in Seattle—but that’s not on the schedule either. Arizona likely was able to add the UCLA game since they were headed to California anyway for the Stanford-Cal swing this weekend. It’s possible that there are other conflicts behind the scene that make travel not possible this week for the Beavers that we as fans aren’t privy to.
I say all of this because I can understand the frustration with wanting more games for our team but reading into tea leaves over relationships is extremely fraught — despite what may have occurred in the past given that we don’t know the full story.

Agree 100%. Also, I find the claim that "teams don't want to play us because they don't want to lose" is awfully soft and sells short the other teams' coaches and players. Teams like Cal and Washington, who have zero chance of making the tourney, should relish the opportunity to play Stanford. The coaches would get to see which of their players will truly compete (tough enough, not scared, won't back down, etc) against better players. They would also get to see their weaknesses completely exploited. And perhaps most importantly, it shows their own team what a top-tier program looks like. Invaluable opportunity.

Many coaches probably want the challenge. The only thing that makes me think not all coaches think that way is that I've heard from Stanford coaches in a variety of settings over the years say how hard it can be to get teams to play us, that many coaches do not want the probable L. If I were a coach I would want to play really good teams when I could, but that is not a given. I also think the NCAA tournament committee places way more weight on how many losses rather than how many good wins, so even a "good" loss can hurt in ways it probably should not and teams with softer schedules but fewer losses can get a boost over teams that challenged themselves more.

In general I agree with you. We also should not assume bad motives without evidence. But something Tara or one of the other coaches said last spring did stick with me. I wish I could dial-up the exact quote, but something to the effect "we were willing and tried repeatedly but they were not." It was not a neutral "we were willing but the schedule just did not work out." There was an overtone of frustration with Oregon State. That part is not speculation. But it could have been a one-off and anything about this year is, admittedly, speculative.

Sports boards would be pretty boring if fans couldn't throw out wild unsupported conspiracy theories about opponents. All but the extremely naive are aware that the vast majority of board posters, moi included, know jack shite about what's really going on behind the scene.

Oregon State has had 5 conference games postponed, which they have started to make up.
If they come to the Bay Area, it would make sense for them to play Cal and Stanford on the same trip.
That would make 4 games in one week. They would probably have to move one of the games vs Oregon to
another week to make that feasible.
Who thinks that all of the postponed games will be made up?

You are absolutely CORRECT about Oregon State not willing to reschedule at Stanford last year. And to everyones speculation that some teams won't reschedule or make up games. Here is Michelle Smith who writes for ESPN and the Pac12 network saying in early January that is exactly what is happening within the conference.

USA Today just released this week's Coaches Poll. Stanford is ranked #2, consistent with the Sportswriters Poll. Two things of note, the Coaches Poll has a high/low column which shows the range of rankings that various coaches chose (Stanford ranges from 2 to 5 in the poll); it also list the voting coaches names (Mike Neighbors, Jeff Walz, and Lynn Roberts are among them).
According to the site, "The voters represent each of the 32 Division I conferences that receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th."
