or 6'4 C Kateryna KOVAL (#5 overall)
should pretty much seal the deal for Stanford's recruiting class of 2024....

Joe, do you have any reason to believe that Jordan Lee has a higher probability of committing than either Joyce Edwards or Kateryna Koval?
I mentioned that not in terms of probabiiities but in term of what Stanford needs
to continue to flourish post-BRINK.

Some pundits opine that player rankings don't matter, but beyond the anomaly
of Stanford's 2017 Final Four team which did not feature any Top 10 player
(highest was 2013 #11 Erica McCALL, followed by 2014 #25 Brittany McPHEE)
ALL the other Stanford Final Four teams in the 21st century had
at least 2 Top 10 players:

- during the 2008-2012 5-year Final Four run plus the 2014 Final Four team,
they had WIGGINS, APPEL, PEDERSEN, the OGWUMIKE sisters and TINKLE.

- and recently (2020 national champion and 2021 Final Four team)
they had Haley JONES, BRINK and Kiana WILLIAMS.

I can't find any online  player rankings data for the 1990-1992 and
1995-1997 Stanford Final Four teams, but I would guess that the likes
of Jennifer AZZI, Sonya HENNING, Val WHITING and Rachel HEMMER
were all Top 10 players while Kate STARBIRD, Jamila WIDEMAN,
Kristin FOLKL and Olympia SCOTT were definitely Top 10 players.

So for the coming years, I would say 2024 #8 Jordan LEE at SG
plus either #2 Joyce EDWARDS or #5 Kateryna KOVAL at the post
would be a logical Top 10 combination.

As for the upcoming season, well, Stanford still has 2020 #3 BRINK
while 2021 Brooke DEMETRE was #11 by ESPN but #7 by Prospect Nation,
so I guess there's still hope?

Also Courtney Ogden HG #10 in 2023
Yes, Stanford's current roster still has 3 Top 10 players:
- 2020 #3 (HG) BRINK at C,
- 2021 #7 (PN) DEMETRE at SF/PF
- 2023 #10 (HG) OGDEN at SF/SG

and another Top 20 player:
- 2021 #19 (HG) IRIAFEN at PF

You bring that group together with a very
cerebral and crafty pure PG in LEPOLO,
and the sharpshooting 3-point specialist JUMP,
and shifty SF/SG BOSGANA who can shoot 3s
and penetrate the lane,
and I really think that they are still Final 4 material.

We've seen all of them play except for OGDEN,
so the realized potential of OGDEN is key
to the success of this line-up

Jordan Lee to Texas? Seems most likely.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 09-22-2023

Why Texas ?

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 09-22-2023

Yes Lee to Texas. I finally looked at Instagram
Is that good news about Koval ? Hope so

Or the SEC is a better league than the ACC

RE: Class of 2024+ - Card10Fan - 09-22-2023

So Texas lands the 2024 #7 AND #8 recruit on the same day.

Ugh. We aren't really shining when it comes to our own locals. Morgan Cheli and now Jordan Lee going elsewhere.

I don't read this as anything regarding Koval's decision.

Koval is on another official visit this weekend. Presumably at Notre Dame.

Well, there goes half of my remaining Top 10 wish list for the Class of 2024.
I was most hopeful about Jordan Lee being a Bay Area kid.

Frankly, I think Joyce EDWARDS is South Carolina-bound,
as Dawn Staley has really been able to lure their top local kids
starting with the great Aja WILSON (consensus #1, Class of 2014),
and lately with Ashlyn WATKINS (PN #9, Class of 2022)
and Milaysia FULWILEY (PN #3, Class of 2023).
I hope I'm wrong with this....

RE: Class of 2024+ - BosCard - 09-22-2023

Disappointing about Lee but hopefully this means we increase our chances of landing Blakes.  Lee / Blakes have similar games and probably would have competed for the same spot on the team.

RE: Class of 2024+ - Card10Fan - 09-22-2023

My best "guesses" at this point without knowing for sure who's coming for official visits this fall to the Farm are:

Joyce Edwards to SC
Koval to Notre Dame

Blakes and Peterson to Stanford. Will see how things play out over the next few months.

Joyce Edwards is on an official to visit to LSU this weekend.

RE: Class of 2024+ - kat0189 - 09-23-2023

I holding out hope for Joyce Edwards. I think she's the best, certainly the most upside, in the class. And everything I read about her and her family seem like a perfect fit with Stanford academically.

If Jazmine Davidson choosing her dream school comes to fruition, that's already an elite starting five (Ijiwoye, Swain, Davidson, Edwards, Ume) that could compete with any squad I see brewing between the '24-'25 classes for a national championship.

Icing would be adding a guard Mikayla Blakes or Addie Deal from '25. And another F/C, though fewer options remain besides Brynn McGaughy. I love '25 Alaskan 6'5" Layla Hays ranked #21 by Prospects. She might intrigue me more than Koval, but no clue about her academics and Stanford was not among the slew of offers she received her breakout summer. My favorite Bay Area 6'2" pogo stick, McKenna Woliczko, is of course '26.

Not at all sure what to expect from Harper Peterson, but if I had to bet I would guess UW.

I want Koval. She is the biggest need and she is very very good

Both would be like that Nneka and Jayne front court

RE: Class of 2024+ - Card10Fan - 09-27-2023

Good to hear. She's looked excellent in a couple games I've seen her play in.

imo edwards is really good, someone to build a team around.

too bad women's volleyball is away that weekend. football has a bye week - though that might be good rather than bad.

RE: Class of 2024+ - PVTree - 09-28-2023

Is women's soccer playing at home that weekend?

Sadly, no. Neither are the men.

RE: Class of 2024+ - Card10Fan - 09-28-2023

Kate Koval is announcing her commitment next week on October 4th.
