Sources tell me that Eager was responsible for the development of Quinn Matthews and several others. I don't think he's the problem.
Not enough guys like Quinn Matthews and too many guys who repeatedly get shelled. He's the problem.
Or maybe — hear me out — the current pitchers are not at the Matthews standard.
Well, isn't his job to develop these pitchers?? He has had flame throwers, but he cannot teach control. How many past balls screwed this team so far this weekend? These are his pitchers he has recruited. Either he is bad at recruiting, or development.

These east coast games… Haskins just got his 4th hit of the day (homered earlier) and we’re up 10-5 at the 7th inning stretch. Can our pitchers find 9 more outs before giving up 5 runs?
Fantastic barehanded play by Nati who came from behind the second base bag to throw out a Clemson hitter’s excuse me checked swing dribbler between the pitcher, 1B and 2B. We now need 6 outs before giving up 4 runs.

Defense came to play today! Hott with a full-extension diving catch in CF to prevent what would’ve been a two-run double/triple, and Becerra with a slick play on a grounder up the middle to end the 8th inning threat. 3 more outs!
Insurance dinger from Larson, and a 7-out save by Keenan, and the losing streak is finally snapped!
Congrats to the team for the 11-6 win—they hit and defended well today!

I feel for Sasaki. He came in here with big hype. He is the real deal, but I am sure it is hard. All the attention and not really easy access to family, but he does have all his teammates and I am sure Esquer is doing all he can to ease his lack of immediate support from his dad. He has a big hole in his swing with anything up in the zone. Hence, all the fly balls he hit the first 2 games.
He is a smart hitter, but he is just a freshman. I hope he stays and does not regret his decision to leave Japan. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and this is when he is going to need it.

A wild pitch is not a passed ball. And, I repeat: Eager must work with the talent he has. That talent limits what a coach can do.

By all accounts, Sasaki is 100% a team player. My guess is we'll get to see him for one more season.

Wait…. weren’t Matt Scott and Joey Volchko both preseason All-Americans? Are we to believe that in spite of this, their talent is limited and that they have already peaked? My eyes tell me that Scott has actually regressed.
And didn’t you yourself say that this has been a different team since the break?

People change. Especially at that age. There are limits to what a coach can do.
I’m reminded of an old story. A pro sports team owner was asked why he fired the manager. “Well,” he replied, “couldn’t fire the whole team.”

Before the Clemson series, Stanford placed 158th out of 299 D1 baseball teams in ERA.
But Stanford's ERA is 15th out of the 16 ACC baseball teams. Only BC is worse.
