ND had by far the most possession and at worst looked like it was going to PKs. But then a badly flubbed cross by the ND goalie gifted OSU with a goal with 34 sec to go in the second OT.

Aside from that upset, the results on Thursday were mostly chalk. All other 1, 2, and 3 seeds won (though #2 seed Georgetown had to go to PKs to defeat West Virginia). There was one 5 seed beating a 4 seed which is not really an upset in my book.

Stanford vs. Alabama at 7 pm tonight at Cagan. Be there in person if you can.

So did ESPN forget the on button?

I believe UCLA-BYU game probably delayed the start of Stanford Alabama.  The prior game went to PKs.

I hope we get to see the entirety of the match. ESPN cut off the feed for the BYU/UCLA and the Clemson/Vandy games once those matches went to OT.

Scary start there. Alabama forward was wide open on goal if that got across.

Remarkable finish for UW to win in OT vs. Arkansas. Good for UWash.

Let’s just win in regulation

And 1:0 already. Not sure how you leave Aikey wide open on a corner.

Third time the defense has gotten caught in a bad spot already. Not good defending or goalkeeping there. 1:1.

And a fourth defensive mess. Really have to tighten things up.

Now 2:1 Klinger to Kitihata

RE: Women’s soccer 2025 -- ACC Champions! - Hieronymus - 11-21-2025

2:2 beaten on the counter again. This is unacceptable defense.

3:2 Evans on a second ball off a corner. Now can the defense not give up another counter.

3:2 still at halftime.

Stanford is better, but this is no gimme from here. The Stanford defense + Nguyen can’t run with the Alabama front line. 5 dangerous counters led to 3 SOG and 2 goals. On offense, it looks like Evans is now getting parked as a stopper/DM to try to stop counters before they start. Otherwise, the Alabama goalie has been worth about 2 goals, with a shot off the crossbar and another Stanford shot cleared off the line. The good news is crossing and corners have been pretty good so far for Stanford.

Third goal:

Glad to be up at half-time but we are right to worry about how the defense will hold on.

4:2 Evans with another goal indirectly off a corner.

4:3 nice Alabama shot from distance but more poor defending

RE: Women’s soccer 2025 -- ACC Champions! - cardfan77 - 11-21-2025

What the hell is our defense doing

RE: Women’s soccer 2025 -- ACC Champions! - Hieronymus - 11-21-2025

Klinger misses far side wide on a header from 1 foot out. Somehow.

It’s basically scary every time Alabama gets forward.

Smith in at LB which makes me even more nervous. Interesting no Boamah. She can lose her positioning, but she is much faster.

And that is a blind man goal kick call. Ref has been decent but I have no idea what he is looking at there. And nobody else did either - UA was setting up for the corner.

5:3 Aikey with the goal. She had been struggling with her left footed shooting, but finally got one.

RE: Women’s soccer 2025 -- ACC Champions! - cardfan77 - 11-21-2025

Ok 5-3 Stanford

I’m going to hit my head on the wall if Bama scores another

Aikey’s second goal:

Just need to survive the last 5 minutes.

3 minutes to go and Nguyen makes it 6-3

RE: Women’s soccer 2025 -- ACC Champions! - Hieronymus - 11-21-2025

Goalie for UA is about +5 for the day now.

6-3 Stanford, Nguyen with the goal.

Lead finally feels safe.

RE: Women’s soccer 2025 -- ACC Champions! - cardfan77 - 11-21-2025

Yup Bama’s goalie has been impressive

7-3 Montoya
12 seconds to go. I can finally breathe

RE: Women’s soccer 2025 -- ACC Champions! - Hieronymus - 11-21-2025

And 7:3, Montoya with goal with 12 seconds left.

The last shutout was VT on Oct 9, 6 weeks and 9 games ago. Defense has to be better than what we saw today.

RE: Women’s soccer 2025 -- ACC Champions! - BostonCard - 11-21-2025

7-3 final.

The bright side is that after the 40 minute mark, we trounced them, going 5-1 in the last 50 minutes.

But the first half was more nerve-racking than it should have been.

RE: Women’s soccer 2025 -- ACC Champions! - cardfan77 - 11-21-2025

We knew that defense is the weakest part of this team. To see the defense get beat on multiple counters is very concerning. I don’t know if it would have made a difference if Boamah played tonight. I’m just glad the offense was able to score. We’ve seen games where the offense does everything correct except finish and score. Glad that didn’t happen tonight.

On to BYU. I hate that the game is Monday afternoon
