Clutch pitching by Grech, with two infield hits. Really love the movement from outside to in on the righties. Turns it into a defensive swing just to put it in play. Getting worried about his pitch count after 56 last night.

3 more outs. I'd like to see a few more runs here for cushion.

OK. We're ahead by more runs than UCI has outs. That's good, right?
But we can always use a bigger cushion. C'mon, offense. One last push. Be patient.

Grech to finish this, Beck in the pen. Here. We. Go.

Two bogus calls in a row and we get nothing in the 9th.

Tie goes to the runner. He was safe.

Yes! Call was reversed. Now let's jack one out of the park for 2 runs!
One out left!
Gretch just pitched 4 balls in a row. Two men on now.
Gretch is done. One out to win. Beck coming in? Let's finish this!!
It's Palisch.

Yes! (pending replay? ;-)
The Anteaters were pedaling uphill all game. They played well but the hill was too big.

WE WIN!!! What a pressure cooker of a game. 8 pitchers for the Cardinal in this game. On to the Super Regional.

Madera86 - 06-07-2021
Whew! Congrats to the team. It wasn't easy, but they got it done.
I actually think we have better chances in the Super Regional even though it's on the road, since we only have to win two games.

We play Texas Tech, best 2 out of 3.

I like our chances against Texas Tech. Hopefully Beck will pitch better than he did on Saturday and Williams stays hot.

The tying run was about 15 feet short. Thank god!

Blue Hawk (Mizzou) Card - 06-07-2021
Sometimes the heavy night air at Sunken is a good thing.
Great job by all of our guys in a difficult situation. But special kudos to Grech. What a battler!
Of course, we are partial to Bishop Gorman grads in our family. Though we can't be absolutely sure, we believe Mrs. Blue Hawk is the first ever Gorman grad to attend Stanford. Recently there were three Gorman grads on the Stanford baseball team. Grech is the last man standing.

Yes! Survive and advance. Knew we had it in the bag all the way! Or not.
Really glad we get to play on another weekend. Let's keep it going.
High pitched annoying as f@$* voice: Woooooooooooooooooo! I want to make her listen to her own voice at high volume interlaced with All Right Now and watching the final out and all their errors in the final game. But that may be the trauma of having to listen to her all weekend.
Cheers,
Pete F.

I'm not sure if the super regional at Texas Tech will be Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon.
Currently, the weather predictions are
Fri: 103F dropping to 70 overnight, daytime humidity 25%, daytime winds from SW 10-20mph shifting to NE; night time ENE 10-20mph 0% chance of rain
Sat: 96F - 69, winds E 13mph, daytime humidity ~50%, daytime 24% chance of rain (afternoon TS), nighttime 30% chance of rain (isolated TS in the evening)
Sun: 91F - 67, winds E 12mph, daytime humidity ~50%, daytime 24% chance of rain, nighttime 11%
Mon: 91F - 65, winds E 11mph, daytime humidity ~50%, daytime 24% chance of rain, nighttime 11%
At their stadium, center field is toward the SE. So Friday night to Monday, the wind will be blowing in from left field.
Sounds like more homers Friday. Conditions Sat to Monday will be fairly constant.

Blue Hawk (Mizzou) Card - 06-08-2021
Per Baseball America, first game against Texas Tech is Friday at noon Pacific. See

Short turnaround. But I prefer day games because we have some home run power. Maybe that is too much of a Sunken Diamond mindset, though. In many places, the wind blows more during the day and M T reports that the wind in Lubbock blows in, not out.

Texas Tech is a team that has been as hard hit by injuries as anyone in the country. They’ve lost two starting pitchers, two bullpen arms and their CF who was Big 12 Preseason POY all to season-ending injuries. They still have a strong roster but this super is more winnable than some of the others we’ve found ourselves at in recent years.
