Apparently we landed Talana Lepolo:

A true PG who led the Cal Stars to a championship. Elite distributor, but needs to improve her offensive game. Really knows how to run a team.

Wow that’s a shock. Thanks for the post

Video is 95% passing and a few mostly step-through drives. No shots longer than about 5 ft. To me it looks like Marta Sniezek, but not as quick, with less shooting prowess (!) and maybe not quite the passing skills. Hoping I'm wrong.

Hopefully this doesn't mean Kiki Rice is out of the picture

agree on all counts.

on the positive side, danielle robinson of mitty, oklahoma, and the nba, was a career 19% 3-point shooter for oklahoma, yet has had a long wnba career - 3x an all-star - despite scoring mostly from drives.

we have posts, we have 3-point shooters (hannah jump and brook demetre). we need distributors.

she is ranked #32

Big recruiting weekend upcoming with Betts and other targets expected on campus. Kiki Rice is not visiting. If she was going to take an official visit, this would have been the weekend to do so. Not promising.

My gut still says Rice ends up at Duke or UConn and that Stanford loses out because she wants to play closer to home.

uconn would shock me, and don't count out yale. this is likely one of the top academic families of the tara era. jamila wideman was another.

By the looks of Palm Drive, nobody?  J/K, I know a coach can't post details on recruits.

Wonder if Jeanette Pohlen is now working for wbb. Anyone ?

I wonder the same thing about Pohlen. Seems she must have some new role that is still unannounced. Kiki Rice was on a visit to UCLA Friday. Hopefully she heads north to Stanford for a visit before she leaves the west coast.

The prospectsnation article says Lepolo is a 4.5 star top 25 player according to their rankings.  She may not have been on our radar before but hoping we are getting a great PG.

She’s not in the top-100 in HG.  Wonder why the disparate ratings.

HG and Propects Nation are often at odds. As for Lepolo, the PN article describes her as a 4.5 star and in the elite 25 watchlist. But if you look at list, she's not on it, even as a 4 star.

And then there's Betts. HG continues to have her #1. PN has her as a 4.5 star recruit, not in the top group. Let's hope NP is VERY wrong on that one and HG is right.

From the video I've seen Betts could be #1 for potential over a four year college career.  I don't see her as the most valuable and skilled player in the country where she is now.  Of course it's impossible to compare players at different positions.

RE: Women's Basketball Recruiting (Class of 2022+; split May 2021) - spike5882 - 09-25-2021

I watched all the games from the u19 World Cup, and was very pleasantly surprised by Betts.  Only 2022 on the team, playing along with some current college players like Caitlin Clark.  She led the team in rebounds, third in scoring, top in blocks, and led the whole tournament in field goal percentage. And only played 16 minutes a game.  If using 40 minute stats, she lead the whole tournament in essentially every single stat line.  She is going to be a very special player.  Between her and Brink, we are going to be super solid down low next year and the year after.

It seems like Lepolo had a super strong spring and summer season and expected to rise in rankings.  Not overly impressed by the video I can find, but it’s old.  Would be curious to see more recent clips of her.

Watch the Nike Nationals 17U girls championship Cal Stars vs CY-Fair for more recent video of Lepolo.  I see a strong tough PG with great vision and passing.  A number of her team’s baskets were a result of her great passes.  And she hit 3 jumpers and 2 big free throws when the game was on the line.

Thanks Bos card. I watched the same game however watched closer Bell and Muse. Then the ucla commit Jacquez just took over But so many great passes inside for scores. By Lepolo
