Koval announces in Wednesday.  Did she ever visit?

She took a Stanford official visit last spring. Was on campus for our home games vs UCLA.

She’s been on official visits to Stanford, LSU, and most recently Notre Dame in that order. My gut tells me Notre Dame. She’s one that’s cited academics as a top priority and a chance to win a national championship.

She’s also announcing at 6:30AM pacific time. Hmm. That doesn’t seem great for us. Just saying.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 09-28-2023

Bet the school assembly is at 9:30 thus the announcement then
Thanks for the visit info
I fear LSU more

RE: Class of 2024+ - kat0189 - 09-30-2023

I was guessing UND, but the more I sleuth online, the less sure I am. But a birdie on the Boneyard has said she leans there, and IIRC it was her latest visit. I think she just visited LSU because...why not? But they already have 6'6" Aaliyah Del Rosario. Though maybe they're the next Kalani Brown/Lauren Cox for Kim.

Niele Ivey has done well recruiting NY/NJ: Hidalgo, Miles, Citron, Watson (transfer), and Marshall.

Even if she doesn't end up on the Farm I wish her the best. A great story, and she seems to hold Stanford in very high esteem.

Looking ahead to c/o 2025, my new favorite POI is Aussie 6'3" forward Lara Somfai. Followed by Kate Pate and Erica McCall on the Instagram and vice versa, plus she follows the Stanford WBB account. Lauren Jackson says she the best young player in Australia.

You don't see too many 6'3" girls that crafty in transition or penetrating to the hoop.

somfai is impressive. thanks for posting.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BACardinal - 10-01-2023

Lara Somfai is very impressive! Jackson is right in saying she is the best. Honestly, I am going to say she is a difference maker recruit. Oh my goodness she is the real deal.

I agree with you guys, just WOW!  I want!

RE: Class of 2024+ - Card10Fan - 10-01-2023

Harper Peterson was on campus for an official visit this weekend.

Everything in the media is saying Koval is down to ND and LSU. I have not seen any indication we are still a finalist FWIW.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 10-01-2023

Ya beat me again lol. Sure not great rumor news on Koval.

Well, that's frustrating if it's true. Not that our recent recruiting has fallen off a cliff, but with Jones' graduation, Betts and Nivar's transfers and this being the final year for Brink, we badly need to find our next generation of elite stars. It's been frustrating to watch top-tier recruits such as Watkins, Hidalgo, Rice and Miles go somewhere else in the last couple years.

I know that not even mighty UConn gets all of the players they want, but they and most other programs can easily pivot to the next top-five recruit if they miss out on someone. We cannot and so every program-changing recruit that has the academic credentials and desire to play for us but ultimately chooses somewhere else, is that much more devastating to us.

And then once we secured a couple of elite players and see them both transfer out after just one season, is a critical blow. For other schools, they just see who is out there on the transfer portal and fill in their roster gap. As discussed here at length, it's nearly impossible for us to do so with similar ease.

I know NIL does us no favors, but it's frustrating that the promise of a Stanford degree (esp. for those who professed to be more academically inclined), playing under a HoF coach and regularly being in the mix to make deep postseason runs is still often not enough.

Yeah, it does seem like our recruiting has fallen off in the last couple of years. And then to see the elite ones we do get enter the transfer pool adds to the frustration. Not sure what the problem is, but hopefully Tara knows and is taking steps to fix it.

I'm afraid the transferring out of Stanford's highest profile recruit
in #1 overall 6'7 BETTS along with Top 20 and McD AA NIVAR's
after only their freshman season, will have adverse effects
on Stanford recruiting for one reason or another.  Unfortunately,
the lure of a Stanford diploma, especially among top 5 or
even Top 10 recruits, can only do so much
in this day and age of NIL.

Some have been critical of BETTS during her freshman season
and even beyond, but I really see her as a major contributor at UCLA
starting this season, especially after her high profile performance
at the recent AmeriCup vs centers of senior squads from Canada, Brazil etc.
With fellow sophomores and McD AAs #2 RICE, #19 JACQUEZ,
and #22 JONES for three years, and with next season's
high profile recruits in #14 Kendall DUDLEY and #24 Avery CAIN
for two seasons, I predict UCLA is finally Final Four bound
starting either this season or next.

As for Stanford next season, they still have three former McD AAs
in 2023 #10 SF/SG OGDEN, 2021 #11 SF/PF DEMETRE and
2021 #19 PF IRIAFEN plus steady PG LEPOLO and shifty
Greek import SF/SG BOSGANA to build their season around.
But I don't think Stanford will be able to get any of the remaining
uncommitted  2024 Top 10 or even Top 25 recruits.
Hopefully, 2022 #37 PF AGARA, 2022 #39 SG CLARDY,
2023 #40 PF/C UMEH and/or 2023 #44 PG IJIWOYE
will surprise. Hopefully...

RE: Class of 2024+ - Card10Fan - 10-04-2023

Koval to ND as I expected.

RE: Class of 2024+ - Hoops9092 - 10-04-2023

Notre Dame has a nice mix of top recruits with Hidalgo at point (No. 5 last year, top PG), Prosper at wing/forward (No. 16 last year, who some had in the top 5), Risch (No. 20 last year, on the wing) and now Koval, the top post in this class. Of course, Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron will be seniors next year, too. Good looking team, they could be a strong Final Four possibility.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 10-04-2023

I’m shocked it’s ND. And extremely disappointed not Stanford. Thought sure LSU

I believe Betts and Nivar's transfers tipped the scales against us.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 10-04-2023

In a story several days ago Stanford was one of the three. Getting a brobdingnagian possibility at starting at Stanford was t enough

I have to respectfully disagree with this.  Betts’ transfer helped us because top recruits want playing time and I’m sure Koval did not want to spend 2 years on the bench playing behind Betts.  ND also needs bigs and so starting as a freshman and playing time probably wasn’t the deciding factor.
