I watched the first quarter; only time I've seen Iowa. What surprised me is how Iowa schooled SC on the basic pick and roll. I assume that is a basic staple for them. The SC coaching staff should have had plenty of tape for preparation. How could SC get burned so bad by the pick and roll? They should have been ready for it rather than project a "what can we do" attitude.

My thought was that Iowa has the perfect players to run the screen and roll in Clark and Czinano, plus a couple other players who can make a three if their defenders collapse the paint. You can’t go under the screen, as Clark will kill you with a three. You can’t fight over the top because Clark will turn the corner and score a layup. If you try to switch, Clark will feed Czinano who is very good finishing, and if you try to collapse, Clark can kick it out to Warnock, Marshall, or Martin, each of who, have 40 or more made threes and a three point percentage pushing 40%.

Frankly, what a pleasure to watch. Not a big NCAAW fan until Final 4 with Stanford in it... but Clark wears a cape -- unflappable!
We would not have beaten IOWA in the Seattle Regional Final.
The Sunday Title game -- LSU vs IOWA -- might outdraw the Men's final if they hit 6m viewers.
The take down of SCAR was EPIC!
Coach Bluder outfoxed SCAR with the collapsing triangle and two on the tall Gamehens.
I fear Bluder may be building a dynasty that draws some talent away from Stanford.

Much the same was said about Adia Barnes and Arizona after they made it to the national final and came within a point of victory. Would Arizona build a dynasty or was it too dependent on Ari McDonald? Maybe the jury is still out on Arizona, but their trip to the near-top has not so far resulted in a dynasty--they went from being a top team to a merely good team after their star left.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Cal's Curry, who is in the portal, winds up at Arizona. She's not quite as quick as McDonald, but she can really shoot. I read here that she had a 4.5 gpa in hs, so maybe we could be another option.

Hedge and double the ball hard, then as you said, rotate. Easier said then done, given not just her shooting ability, but her speed and her vision. Still I’m doing all I can to make her give it up.

Arizona has a highly ranked / McDonalds All American PG, Jada Williams, in their 2023 class. Fellow highly ranked 2022 guard, Paris Clark, just transferred out from Arizona. Not sure that’s a situation Curry would want to transfer in to.

I wonder if the WBB Finals represent any aspect of “The Great White Hope” for this country? I guess that, in the modern era, it isn’t appropriate to ask, but, still, from a social scientist’s perspective, it’s a fair question.

Iowa looks to be in trouble early. LSU up and making high percentage of perimeter shots with key players on the bench. Mulkeys team came ready to play which I feel like often happens with her teams when they get to a Final 4. Come on Iowa!

I find myself rooting for LSU. I don’t love the theatrics from Mulkey and Reese but LSU is playing good team basketball with many different players stepping up and hitting big shots. Iowa is basically Caitlin Clark on every possession.

Seems to me that officiating is a problem for both teams, unpredictable and inconsistent. But wow, LSU hitting outside shots much more than in regular season, already have more threes than average for full game this year.

A tightly called game generates lots of offense. The first half score is very much like a lot of final scores we've seen this year.

LSU is playing out of its mind -- including that buzzer beater ending the half off the backboard and Iowa is playing seriously rattled. 9-12 threes including 5-5 from an LSU sub off the bench, 59 points in 1st half. And Clark now has three fouls. Not how this game was anticipated to go, at least by me.

Jasmine Carson 5/5 from three point range at the half and has more points than Clark. It is always the second string player who blows up the scouting report.
Clark started on fire but went cold in the 2nd quarter.

I don’t know why anyone would cheer for Mulkey and her antics. Her history is well documented and her team this year is one of the cockiest I’ve ever witnessed.
It almost befuddles me why players continue to chose to play for her. I think she’s a good coach but to anyone who follows, she’s had a very controversial coaching career.
