Reminder that swain has played exactly 0 minutes in college basketball, and while it is reasonable to be optimistic about her prospects, there are tons of examples of highly touted prospects who don’t wind up panning out in college.
Always easier to see the grass as greener with an untested, highly touted prospect than the known warts of a player you have, but everyone has strengths and weaknesses, Lepolo does a lot of things well despite her weaknesses (we would have definitely been better last year with her playing), and Swain will have warts of her own.

True, but one shouldn't be afraid of the unknown. Swain should get a chance to show herself and any freshman will have growing pains, but we've kinda seen Lepolo's ceiling but we don't know what Swain can do.
Don't just stick with the veteran and limit yourself if the freshman can potentially offer a higher ceiling

The issue is that fans see the starter struggling, and are quick to assume that the coach has a seniority fetish and is unwilling to put the touted freshman in because of obstinacy. The thing is that fans don’t see the touted freshman struggle in practice and make mental errors, and that, just maybe, there’s a reason that the more experienced player is starting.
Good example of this was all the people calling for the Brown (backup QB) to start when the starter (Gilbranson) struggled. turns out the coaches were probably right.

Kaeli Wynn is on her 2nd visit to SC this weekend along with Jerzy Robinson. She also took her OV to SC in September. Gamecock fans seem very certain she will commit. Disclaimer, many of their fans are a bit delusional when it comes to recruiting and think every recruit is coming to South Carolina. SC also has big recruiting weekends with many former players all coming back really trying to pull out all the stops.
Will have to see and I would think should know soonish. If Stanford is her last visit still, maybe there is still a chance. Possibly, she's also had an OV to Stanford this fall and it just wasn't reported since her recruitment has been so quiet. Sometimes it feels that recruits leanings can change as quickly as which way the wind is blowing that day. But a lot speculation and rumors out there with probably not a lot of direct insight.

payton starwalt from downtown
61 3's in a row in practice
long commentary on her
she looks tiny in the videos, and is listed as 5'6" or 5'7". she'll need time in the weight room, after which she'll be close to kiana's size. she apparently has a hannah jump outside shot, but hannah is 6'0"

I hope that we were able to get Wynn so we can have at least one top-20 recruit for next year's class, but even if we do, we got to go hard for recruits in the Class of '27. It stinks that we are not even being considered in the typically brobdingnagian pool of schools recruits have at this point in the cycle for the premier players in that class. Hopefully, a strong season will have some of them reconsidering.

I don't care if she's 5'3", if she can shoot like that from the logo, take a flyer on her. 3 point shooting is invaluable for basketball these days, and that kind of range really stretches the defenses and spaces the floor, and a hot shooter can blow a game wide open. We'd be crazy not to take a chance on her, although I'm sure Oregon will be throwing all kinds of NIL at her by the time she has to decide.

Exactly how I predicted the starting line-up would be, then with CLARDY, ESCHMEYER, IJIWOYE and STEVENSON off the bench. But I thought UMEH might be given more playing time. And disappointed that OGDEN was a non-factor in offense.

Kaeli Wynn and her mom where at the game last night, sitting with Brooke Demetre. Hopefully that's a good sign.

Nice! Wynn does have that Mater Dei connection with Brooke. I’m thinking since Wynn has been at SC twice this fall, she’s likely been on the Stanford campus a few times as well the past few months and it just hasn’t been widely reported. Why take an official visit on a Wednesday? Likely was unofficial.

Big time bummer. I was very confident in our chances and I honestly think we were the frontrunner most of the way. SC made a late push... We've really struck out on this whole 2026 class of potential recruits. Not sure exactly why but very disappointing to not have had more success.
