RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 01-21-2022

Some of the schedule has been on my phone for awhile Guess from that December release.

I agree with this at least.  Though it seems like all the top teams are stocking up on very good players, in part by transfer.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 01-31-2022

The new player pictures are up, including the freshmen.  And we seem to have a transfer?  New sophomore Asha Johnson (#14):

Looks like she was an OH for Howard University in 2019:  https://hubison.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/asha-johnson/5583

Hometown is Oakland.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-11-2022

Stanford's Cypriot recruit, Daria Gusarova (Class of 2026) has torn her ACL.  Hopefully she makes a full recovery in the coming year.

For this year, first matches are now two weeks away.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-14-2022

The CollegeBeachVB.com website has ranked Stanford #7 in their preseason poll.
The AVCA poll comes out tomorrow.

https://www.collegebeachvb.com/

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-15-2022

AVCA also ranks Stanford #7.  Both polls put USC #1, UCLA #2, FSU #3 and LMU #4.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-24-2022

The season starts tomorrow, taking on UCLA at 12 Noon (PST) in Hawaii. No video, apparently.
Hawaii's website has a link for live stats:  http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=402464

The Cardinal take on Hawaii at 2:00pm (PST) (live stats, same link as above).

The tournament continues on Saturday, with Stanford vs. St. Mary's at Noon (PST).

Oh, and Volleyball Magazine has also ranked Stanford #7.  https://volleyballmag.com/ncaa-beach-rankings-022422/

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 02-24-2022

Stanford ranked #7 and Hawaii ranked #10 so by the AVCA poll Stanford is actually a favorite over Hawaii.  The times are a changing in college beach volleyball.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-25-2022

Stanford fell 1-4 to UCLA.  Glad they got a point.

Stanford vs. Hawaii underway:  http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=402465

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 02-25-2022

After being part of the one win against UCLA, why didn't Ekstrom play against Hawaii?    So 5'6" Converse replaced her with Reilly having to play the net.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BostonCard - 02-25-2022

Stanford takes #2 and falls in #4.
Morris/Wilson won the first set at #5.  #1 and #3 are both in the first set, with Stanford leading.

And just as I post, Hodel/Kira win their first set at #1.

A minute later, Harvey/Sharp take set 1 at #3.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BostonCard - 02-25-2022

Morris and Wilson win our second point on 5.  Unfortunately, Hodel/Kriz lost their second set on #1 and Harvey/Sharp look likely to lose their second set on 3.  We need one of them to come through in a third set.

BC

Hodel/Kriz clinch!  We win 3-1 with #3 tied at 13 in the tiebreak set.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 02-25-2022

We beat Hawaii 3-1. “
Last game tied late in third set

A 4-1 win. Great way to start the season
Over ucla already with this win

I was wondering about that, too.  Muscle cramp?  Injury? (Hope not.)
Nice that Converse and Reilly were able to pick up the win.

Nope it was a scoring error

Correct, stats were initially wrong.  Ekstrom played both matches.

Good day for Stanford women's sports.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-26-2022

Stanford swept St. Mary's, but fell 2-3 in the rematch with Hawaii.  Two of the losses (and one of the wins) went three sets.

Playing St. Mary's, Morris/Wilson moved up from 5th to 4th, Dailey/Doucet sitting out for some reason.  Turner/McKinney played at #5.
For the semifinal vs. Hawaii, the previous line-up was back, with Dailey/Doucet at #4 and Morris/Wilson at #5.

Morris, Doucet, Wilson and Turner are freshman.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-27-2022

Xolani Hodel was named the tournament's Best Blocker.
Recap:  https://gostanford.com/news/2022/2/26/beach-volleyball-cardinal-end-time-in-honolulu.aspx

Stanford is 2-2; I imagine they might slip a spot in the polls, but it's early.

They will head to Los Angeles next weekend for four meets.  Their meet with #1 USC (including Stanford alum Sunny Villapando) on Sunday (3/6) will be carried on Pac-12 Network.

Yay, my first chance to see the freshmen and see how much the upper-classmen have improved.  Unfortunately USC is like a professional team. They are head and shoulders above other teams although UCLA could possibly give them some competition.

Switching to indoor Elaina Oglive was in Colorado Springs this weekend for the USA Open Tryout.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 03-05-2022

USC is providing a live stream for Stanford vs. Cal Poly:

https://pac-12.com/live/usc-2

ETA:  Ekstrom/Reilly get the first win of the dual.

Hmm, not sure how live this stream.  Seems to be showing Ekstrom/Reilly again...

#4 Morris/Wilson also pick up a win.  At least the stats are live.  http://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=403790
