Could be a walk-on who gets a scholarship for a year when/if one is open, but not a 4-year scholarship commitment. That has happened before. I'm only pointing it out as a possibility.

thank you. wow, complicated, so i may have this all wrong, but...
wouldn't keeping a scholarship spot open for the incoming class (as we are doing) allow a covid year for last year's graduates - ie the hulls? (the others already transferred). to have space in case the rising seniors - haley, hannah, fran, ashten - want to play a 5th (covid) year, wouldn't we need to leave a space open among 2023 recruits, not 2022s like lauren green?
oh, maybe you mean that if we leave a space open in the incoming class, we can take a full complement of four 2023's and still have room for a covid 5-year among haley etc.

Watched some U17 today against Germany. I thought Agara looked out of place in the post and seemed more comfortable on the perimeter. Seems to be a mid-range good jump shooter, though...maybe a solid face-up 4.
Juju Watkins had a poor shooting night but still so impressive to watch. I was especially pleased to see her energy and effectiveness on the glass and on defense. Not just a scorer.

Agara historically has played more of a SG/W role, but grew a ton, and this U17 has much stronger guards than posts, so I suspect she was picked because she can play any of 2-5 if necessary. The little I watched, see seemed to play a kind of stretch-4 role, though I haven't really seen her looking to shoot from outside much.
Has anyone else found the play of this U17 team underwhelming so far? Compared to, for example, the Jones/Brink/Belibi/Bueckers/Fudd/Boston/Horston/Cooke group from 2018 (the last time I watched U17), this group feels really lackluster by comparison.

I watched USA's first game vs Mali right after it became available in youtube two days ago, and AGARA made two from beyond the arc in the first half. So, yes, she can deliverfrom 3-point range. But defensively, she is assigned to guard the other team's big forward.

I agree, so far. That 2018 team is probably the best U17 Worlds team assembled to date. Despite the presence of BUECKERS and BOSTON who have dominated WCBB these past couple of seasons, I was particularly impressed with HORSTON (who was the tournament's MOP) and FUDD (especially because she just finished her HS freshman season at the time)
But their defensive intensity vs Germany today was simply outstanding. Their shooting percentage for this qualification phase is what's underwhelming. Hopefully, their shooting improves as they go deeper in the tournament.
Watch out for PG HIDALGO and SF CHELI, both players of interest for Stanford.

Mackenly Randolph has played well and is likely also a player of interest for Stanford (the Stanford Women's Basketball twitter feed follows her).

Can't resist posting about this local find I am just learning about today, though she's yet to even start HS (which she'll do alongside Morgan Cheli next year at Mitty).
6'1'/6'2 McKenna Woliczko from San Bruno. Dad is a former Pacific player and coach and now WCC men's hoops commissioner. Looks like a power forward version Hull sister and is almost dunking already.

In the glimpses I saw of her, Agara looked little more active and aggressive inside.
Kennedy Umeh (now ranked#8 by ASGR) had 15 rebounds, though shot 4/14, which speaks to her great size, hustle, willingness to mix it up in the paint, but still raw at finishing. But I love how she's mobile for her size and tremendously strong and not afraid to back down her defenders (often plural) to get position inside. She might remind most of Kalani Brown but she's also got some Devanei Hampton in her.

That’s great! Do you have article to share? I recall another time her mentioning Stanford was her dream school. I think we have a great shot to land her although class of 2025 is still a ways off and things can change. Swain has already committed though so maybe Davidson could be another early commit. I think Davidsons mom maybe was an athlete at Oregon.
