RE: Stanford Baseball - Madera86 - 04-24-2022

Another late-inning meltdown is brewing. I had hoped that we had largely gotten past this.

But Brett Barrera hits a triple with 2 outs in the top of the ninth scoring Eddie Park & Carter Graham.  Ryan Bruno finishes  2-2/3 inning appearance (no hits, 1 walk) with a 3-up, 3-down 9th for a 6-4 win.

RE: Stanford Baseball - BobK - 04-24-2022

A 6-4 win with Ryan Bruno getting the last 8 outs. No meltdown at all
We can really talk about Bruno

RE: Stanford Baseball - Madera86 - 04-24-2022

I'm happy we won, but it was closer than it should have been, and it could have been worse. We were up 4-1 and allowed SDSU to tie it up 4-all. Mathews had to be called to the mound yesterday to save our bacon and he needed 19 pitches to do so. So it was no surprise that he was pulled relatively early. O'Rourke got bailed out in the 5th when the SDSU batter swung on a 3-0 pitch and grounded out to end the inning with a runner in scoring position. Jensen walked the first two batters he faced and then we got bailed out again when the next batter hit into a double play (but props to the defense).

Credit to Bruno for the scoreless innings, but he wasn't at his sharpest and I was worried given his last outing. Glad he came through, and I hope we've found a dependable arm in the bullpen.

I think we only committed one error all weekend, which is good to see.

Stanford is now ranked 4th by baseball America.

Spike - Spike - 04-25-2022

Three generations of us are going to Scottsdale for the Pac-12 tournament.
The stadium holds 12,000 people.
Would anyone be willing to guess the availability of tickets?

You're a better fan than I. Daytime highs are already in the 90s down there. Gotta think there's a good chance of breaking 100 at the tourney in late May!

6 by D1baseball.

Zero broadcast coverage of the WA series? Really? No wonder the Pac-12 gets little attention. If they can’t be bothered to televise the #4/6 team in the country, what are they good for?

Edit: video is on the UW stream. Not on Pac-12 network. Not happy.

RE: Stanford Baseball - TonyLima - 04-28-2022

D1 Baseball has Stanford at 6. Their current NCAA projection has Stanford a 1 seed in the Stanford regional, #9 in the field.

I'm going to be at the game on Saturday or Sunday (still haven't decided which one).  Anyone know what the starting rotation is going to be for the series?  I would like to be able to see "the Mighty" Quinn Mathews pitch.

Rats. I was hoping we could sweep these guys. We rallied in the ninth with two outs but came up short. Washington wins today, 4-3.

If Mathews closes the game Saturday, starting Sunday will depend on how many pitches he threw and how he feels warming up. If he doesn’t pitch Saturday, expect him to be the Sunday starter.

Re “The Mighty Quinn” are you talking about the song or the movie?

The Bob Dylan song.  My Dad was a Dylan fan, and his albums were regularly played on our car trips, which means that my brother and I were Bob Dylan fans too, up until about junior high school age or so.

I was at the game today and didn't get to see Quinn Mathews pitch, it was even better.  In the middle of the sixth inning I left the chilly section of my assigned seat and went over to the visitors' area, and ended up meeting Mrs. Dowd, whose son started and got the win today.  It was my first time at a Stanford baseball game in more than 16 years, so that was pretty neat.  Yeah.

RE: Stanford Baseball - Madera86 - 04-30-2022

Cool. He pitched well today. Moved to 5-0.

Let's win the series tomorrow. Go Cardinal!

RE: Stanford Baseball - Madera86 - 05-01-2022

What happened to our lead??!? Now 7-all bottom of the seventh, only one out!

Now 7-8. Still only one out. Definitely a melt-down.

Not any more. Uber, Dixon do not have their best stuff. Gonna start writing up the Garagiste Festival in Sonoma yesterday.
