RE: Stanford to the ACC? -
Giants - 08-23-2023
Pete Thamel has reported that SMU, Stanford and Cal are back under consideration by the ACC. SMU would take a zero payment for the next seven years while Stanford and Cal would take a partial payment. The discussion now centers around how to distribute monies received from ESPN for adding three teams and how to distribute the increased CFP payout once the 12 team playoff begins. If the current conference members can agree on those issues (not an easy conversation), a vote will be taken.
Have we reached the level of “wake me when it is over” yet?

Still ridiculous Stanford would get partial payment while SMU receives none. It is what it is with truly zero leverage.

Holy smokes, between the sexual harrassment and the over-the-top physicality (I remember the UNC teams bodying Stanford), he was petty enough to complain about ear studs? What mother would allow her daughter to be coached by that man :(

Ridiculous but if Big 10 doesn't want us then I'm at least a bit happy to spite that asshole NC soccer coach with our presence.

Just google "stanford acc". The buzz this evening is at a fever pitch. It seems very close to becoming reality now.

I keep waiting for Da U or someone like that to 'switch' their vote to no as necessary, but I certainly wouldn't mind semi-regular Jacket appearances in Palo Alto and Berkeley. (Probably wouldn't go to Dallas for that.)
I'm watching "The U" on 30 for 30 while eating over the
sink laptop. Still no ACC titles since they joined. T-shirt woofing.....

Still alternating between denial, rage, and depression. You more mature folks have moved straight through to acceptance.
Hopefully my always questionable maturity and normally sunny disposition will return prior to the first ACC game at Stanford. I've got a year, right? That could be enough time but I'm starting to wonder .... I might be stuck in anger and depression for awhile. F*&% USC and UCLA

Another rumor within the last few hours but from a source I haven't seen before:

Quote:According to ESPN, a series of meetings are scheduled in the coming days with discussions centered around how to distribute the extra $70+ million in additional revenue from pro-rata increases in the conference’s media rights deal.

I hadn't heard that ND might give up its football-independent status as part of this process (or as an aside) and be a full member of the ACC. Maybe that came out of ND's mediation, or maybe it was already on the table (if any of it's true, to begin with). I've heard conflicting rumors as to which Calford sports would join the ACC -- one suggested it'd be all of them currently existing in the conference and the other that it'd only be FB/BB.
My first thought: if Haase has had a hard time elevating Stanford's men's BB program in the Pac, just wait till his team's in the ACC and regularly playing teams such as Miami, WF, UNC, NCSt, Duke, and on and on.

Notre Dame is staying independent. Including monies they receive from their current deal with the ACC, the next contract they sign (in 2025) with NBC will put them on a par with B10 schools. Why take a cut to join the ACC?
Don’t forget - their new AD is the former Chair of NBC Sports.

Same.
The other day I grabbed a hoodie when I needed to walk during our recent tropical storm. And I got really mad at myself for not noticing that it was my UCLA hoodie that I haven't worn in a year. Stupid Bruins. Stupid hoodie.

This was posted at The Sporting News a few hours ago ... more pot-shots at the value of our brand(s) to the ACC, and more of a kind of "heh, Stanford's getting what it had coming" vibe, in terms of the tone, that we've seen in some of the coverage of this over the past few weeks.

He says that Shaw had four losing seasons in a row. Sloppy...and incorrect. Shaw never had more than two losing seasons in a row.

I think my favorite part of that column is this: Stanford only has seven seasons of 10+ win seasons in its history. Cal also has seven 10+ win seasons, and so too does UCLA.
ACC teams with 10+win seasons:
Florida State 25
Clemson 18
Miami 15
Virginia Tech 14
Georgia Tech 9
Syracuse 7
North Carolina 7
Pitt 7
Louisville 6
Boston College 3
Wake Forest 2
Duke 1
NC State 1
Virginia 1
So only 5 schools in the ACC have more than seven 10 win seasons in their history.
Stanford would be tied with UNC for 7th best ACC all-time win percentage. No, Stanford is not USC, but it's historically better than virtually any other team the ACC can add, and it will be in the upper half of the ACC if it joins.
Clemson site reporting Cal, Stanford, and SMU all likely to join ACC. The vote is just going to be a formality. The deal is as good as done. There is just way too much money at stake for the ACC to not expand with these schools given the financial concessions they are making to get in.
The only real question is how many sports will be joining ACC

From Ross Dellenger's article yesterday:
"All three new members would join in all sports..." A move to the ACC that doesn't bring along our Olympic sports makes literally zero sense for either the conference or our AD.
