One died recently

34 Stanford players have been drafted in the first round. The draft started in 1965. In 1966 Pete Middlekauff was drafted in the 6th round. I said that to get Lex guessing about the last two top 5 draftees

RE: Sports trivia thread 2024 - BobK - 07-14-2024

Jeff Austin and David McCarty

Xander Schauffele won the 2024 British Open today, along with the 2024 PGA Championship earlier this year. Bryson DeChambeau won the U.S. Open and Scottie Scheffler won the Masters. All four are Americans.

When was the last time all four of golf's majors were won by Americans and who were they?

Also, Americans have now won seven straight majors, including Brian Harman winning the 2023 British Open, Wyndham Clark winning the 2023 U. S. Open and Brooks Koepka winning the 2023 PGA Championship.

When was the last time Americans won seven golf Major championships in a row? (Nine of the last 10 and 23 of the last 31 majors have been won by Americans).

Last time all four golf majors were won by Americans was 1982: Stadler (Masters), Floyd (PGA), Watson (U. S. Open and British Open).

Last time Americans won seven straight majors was 1975-1978, when they won 15 straight.

Only two players in MLB history had 3,000+ hits, 400+ HRs, and earned at least five Gold Gloves.  Who are they?

Willie Mays. I'm going to guess Hank Aaron.

Mays, yes. The other player is neither Winfield nor Aaron.

Adrian Beltre

I believe there are 4 and all 4 named

Just read Beltre's HOF bio, and he is in this category.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2024 - Giants - 07-22-2024

Yikes.  The article I read said only two players had accomplished the feat (Mays and Beltre).  As Bob noted, the number is four - Yaz, Winfield, Mays and Beltre.

Travis Bazzana became the first second baseman drafted with the first overall pick of the MLB draft.  Who had been the highest drafted second baseman before Bazzana?
