Andrea Lee shot 67 (-5) in today's 3rd round of the Women's Open championship in Wales. She is 3rd at -7, 2 strokes back of the leader. 

Paula Martin Sampedro is one of 2 amateurs to make the cut. She sits at even par.

Martin Sampedro has had quite a summer. She won both the British Amateur and the European Amateur championships. 

Andrea Revuelta finished 3rd in the European Ladies Amateur and Meja Ortengren was 6th. 

The US Women's Amateur starts on Monday at Bandon Dunes. The field includes Megha Ganne, Rachel Heck, Kelly Xu and Brooke Seay.

For those (like me) who wondered what was going on with Brooke Seay in 2023 and 2024, this article will answer most of your questions.

As a junior in 2022, she was on the national championship team and won all 3 of her matches at NCAAs. But then she did not play for most of the spring of 2023 as she was recovering from an unspecified injury. And while she returned to Stanford for a 5th year in 2024, she did not play at all. 

The short version of the story is that Seay suffered two concussions from quite random events at Stanford and is still not fully recovered. But she is back to playing competitive amateur golf. 

She is in the hunt to qualify for match play at the US Amateur. As I type this, Seay is at even par (T43) with 5 holes to play. Low 64 players will advance to match play.

Among other Stanford golfers, Kelly Xu is at +1 with 5 holes to play. Megha Ganne (-1) and Rachel Heck (+3) tee off this afternoon for their 2nd rounds of stroke play.

Update.

3 of the 4 Stanford golfers advanced to match play. Rachel Heck was at the cut line in stroke play until she bogeyed the next to last hole. She missed the playoff for the final spots by 1 shot.

Both Kelly Xu and Brooke Seay lost in the round of 64. Seay had a 1 up lead with 3 to play. But her opponent finished birdie-birdie-birdie to take the match 1 up. 

Megha Ganne won her round of 64 match to earn a shot at Anna Davis, whose resume include quarterfinalist in 2024 U.S. Women's Amateur;  member of 2024 USA Curtis Cup Team; member of 2023 USA Women's World Amateur Team; Top 20 in the Women's World Amateur ranking. Davis also is a past champion of the Augusta National Women's Amateur.

Ganne played lights out, winning this morning over Davis 3 and 2. She recorded 5 birdies and an eagle in the winning effort.

At 2:30 she faces Kary Hollenbaugh in the round of 16. Ganne is currently 11th in the WAGR rankings. Hollenbaugh is 20th.

Ganne goes minus-2 to advance to the quarterfinals against world #6 Elia Galitsky.  

Galitsky finished +4 on the day, Ganne -7--the best of the day.  

Of the eight remaining players,  only Galitsky, #11 Ganne, and #1 Kiara Romero rank in the top 100.

Ganne made 4 birdies in the first 7 holes to take a 3 up lead and then 9 more pars (with one bogey) to preserve her lead. 

Her opponent tomorrow in the semis Ella Scaysbrook is a 19 year old Aussie. She seems very much at home in the windy conditions. 

Stanford golfers have had good success in this tournament recently.
Albane Valenzuela was runner up in both 2017 and 2019.
Rachel Heck lost in the semis in 2023.
Rose Zhang won the championship in 2020. 

If you go way back to 1983, you will find another Stanford US Amateur champ - Joanne Pacillo.

Wow, really clutch performance by Ganne today to reach the finals tomorrow. At one point she was 4 holes down after 13, came back to tie it and win on the 19th.

Ganne showed her experience and maturity in coming back from 4 down to win. She won 12 with a par, 13 with a birdie, 15 with a birdie, and 17 with a par to square the match. Both players missed the green at the par 5 18th and failed to get up and down so they halved the hole with bogeys. On the 1st extra hole, Ganne's opponent airmailed the green while Ganne hit it close and it was over.

Ganne was 21-under for her 119 holes.  That works out to an average 68.8 for 18 holes.

En route, she beat world #20 Kary Hollenbaugh (Ohio State), #14 Anna Davis (Auburn), and #6 Elia Galitsky (South Carolina), none of those matches going to the 18th hole.
