#11 Kentucky at Stanford tomorrow, Saturday, at 7:30 pm PT on ESPN2.   Fortunately after the Nebraska match the score will be reset to 0-0 to start the Kentucky match.

Will home fans get to see Blyashov on the court at some point during the game?

Edit: Thanks mbdude. Tomorrow is Saturday. I made the correction to my post.

Playing Kentucky right now at Maples.  We took the first two sets 25-19.  Frustrating 3rd set that we lost 30-28.  Let's finish these wildcats.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 09-21-2024

Stanford wins 3-1.  Oglivie very good. Miner with 50 assists.

There was one thing I didn't understand in set 3.  Francis nearly tears down the net trying to block a ball.  Hambly challenges the net violation call.

31 service errors between the two teams.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - BobK - 09-21-2024

Francis was telling Hambly not me

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - MSG1716 - 09-21-2024

Nice to see us bounce back after being mauled by Nebraska.  (1) Oglivie perhaps had her best match at Stanford.  She made some unbelievable digs (23 in total), no serve return errors (and most were perfectly placed) and seemed to win more service points than anyone else (just my guess since we don't get to see the individual PS% stat -- I would love to see that added to the box score because that's what matters, no aces or service errors). (2) our blocking was better with 8 blocks but, more importantly, we blocked a lot of balls into the air making for an easier dig and better kill opportunities.  (3) Rubin, as usual, was our go to pin.  Although she had 9 errors (way too many), she got 21 kills (hit .273) and looked dominant in her back row attacks consistently getting around the 1 blocker.  Ruben also had 8 digs (looked superb in the back row as she was targeted a lot but did have 2 return errors).  (4) MBers looked solid again each with 7 kills (Francis had the lone error hitting .333 while Andrew hit .538).  (5) Kurt struggled throughout hitting .000 (with 6 kills, 6 errors on 28 attempts) and, in her brief stints in the back row, had 2 service errors and didn't return well.  I was surprised that Kentucky didn't serve to her every time she was in the back row, but they didn't.

I predict that we will be 5th in the rankings this week with Pitt #1, Louisvile 2 or 4 (depending on whether they beat Nebraska), Penn St (2 or 3) and Nebraska (3 or 4).  Purdue will drop down with 2 losses and we will stay ahead of the teams we beat (UT and Wisconsin).  Of course, rankings don't really matter.  Coach noted pregame that the goal is to improve throughout the season win or lose, and the most important games to win are those 6 in the NCAA tourney).

On Monday (Sept 23):

Pitt should remain #1.
Whoever wins in today's Nebraska @ Louisville match will be #2.

If Nebraska loses @ Louisville today:
Nebraska still goes up to #3 (on the strength of their 3-0 win vs. #2 Stanford)
Stanford (who lost @ #5 Nebraska 0-3, then won at home vs. #11 Kentucky 3-1) slips to #4.
Penn State (who lost @ #1 Pitt, 0-3) goes down to #5.

If Louisville loses vs Nebraska today:
Stanford will be #3.
Penn State will be #4.
Louisville will be #5.

I savor the fact that Stanford beat the last 3 NCAA champions
(2020 Kentucky, 2021 Wisconsin, 2022-2023 Texas)
in their just-concluded OOC schedule.

I agree that, at this juncture, there is a Grand Canyon size gap
between Pitt, Nebraska and the rest of the field

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - M T - 09-22-2024

Interesting that all five losses are 0-3, and 4 of the 5 are away games (but some are not far away)
And, of course, these are all early season matches. (Might be interesting to know how many starters from the previous year are starting this year)
I know that Stanford's and Texas's loss were a few days after playing 2000 miles east/west of the previous game, at the opponent's court.
Obviously there is more to it than travel, but still....

Someone on volleytalk compiled the non-conference records for the main VB conferences.  (Screenshot below)
ACC has the best record which should help with the RPIs.

Good call!  Indeed, the top 5 are Pitt, Nebraska, Stanford, Penn State, Louisville.  Interestingly, although I'm inclined to agree that there is a big gap between #2 Nebraska (who beat both #3 Stanford and #5 Louisville convincingly) and #3 Stanford, the voters put the big gap between undefeated Pitt (60 first place votes and 1 second place vote) and #2 Nebraska (82 points) than they did between #2 Nebraska and #3 Stanford (55 points).

Big match on Sunday.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - CompSci87 - 09-23-2024

It's really striking that Pitt is the only undefeated team in the top 25. I think that reflects how the top WVB teams generally all play a tough preconference schedule.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 09-26-2024

Stanford at Notre Dame tomorrow, Friday, at 3:30pm PT livestreamed on ACCNX.   Notre Dame is 7-2 with three of the wins against B1G teams so they are pretty good.  Hopefully Stanford is not looking forward to the Sunday game.

Stanford's assistant coach Mike  Johnson was the head coach at Notre Dame prior to Stanford.
