The least I can do is try to make sure my daughter is fluent in Chinese like her parents so that at least she's conferred the neurological benefits of bilingualism on executive function and general verbal ability. Getting a 3rd generation American to speak her ancestral tongue is challenging.  I've never met one that could.  It's certainly harder for me than my parents.  When I was a baby, my mom hardly spoke English and I didn't go to daycare.  If I can pull this off, I would consider it my most important accomplishment.

My mother is Russian/Polish and I speak neither  :(.  On the other hand, I'm bilingual (English/Spanish), and Spanish is not a native language to either of my parents.  That's the advantage of growing up an ex-pat.  My daughter is in a Spanish immersion program, and in just two years (she's in first grade) has picked up pretty Spanish pretty readily.  My son didn't get into that program, but we are working to at least speak passable Spanish.  It takes effort, but he's coming around.

Quickly glanced through the video in that article.  I'm more impressed with his receiver(s), who seem to be able to get wide open.  Are his receiver(s) good students?  :P

Actually I think his top receiver is headed for UCLA so they will have a chance to work some more magic.

Hopefully it won't be against us.

Oops, I just checked and they have the guy slotted for defense. So maybe they won't have the chance.

So far we've offered 42 players by a pretty informal count. Interestingly, 17 offers are for offensive players and 25 for defensive.

Makes one wonder if Brady White will be next.

FWIW, Cal fans seem to think Rosen will commit to UCLA within a couple weeks, and then White will choose Cal as his next best option.  But they know what's up.  They know if Stanford offers White or Rosen, things can change.

This seems like the most offers Shaw has made this early.  I remember Harbaugh's spray and pray approach.  Shaw and Lance have been more sniper-like.  Could this be the makings of a class even better than 12 or 14?

per Rivals, we are up to 43 offers (8 verballed elsewhere already).  probably a touch up on number of offers from last year.

per Rivals again, the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends has 103 offers out.

Our approach looks most similar to Oregon's (36 offers, 3 verballed elsewhere).

It does seem the 2015 class could be epic in terms of skill position talent, based on offers and reported recruit interest.

I have no idea if Jabril Peppers was offered because it was believed he could get admitted, or if it was more hope, without much evidence, but based on on how things played out with his recruitment, it seems Peppers was not interested in doing the work required to get admitted.  The question is are guys like Christian Kirk and Iman Marshall willing to do it, and has Stanford learned to not offer kids unless they sign up for AP classes their Senior year of High School?

To me, that's the biggest thing to watch, given recruits have no reason to take AP classes unless they want a Stanford scholarship.  Actions speak louder than words, and this is one very rare action for elite recruits to take.  You'll have USC telling a guy like Marshall that he can come in Spring and compete for a starting job as a Frosh.  Stanford will say take two AP classes, write essays, get letters or recommendation, and come in the Summer.  Big difference.  As Casey Tucker showed, if someone gives up enrolling at USC early and has a Stanford offer, that is more instructive than any interview that can be given to a fan site reporter.

on Peppers, not only did he have an offer, but we led for a long period of time.  family and distance appeared to be the turning point.  we had long threads on Peppers on this board (see http://thecardboard.org/board/index.php?topic=7155.0)

I agree with you about the willingness to do the work necessary in 7th semester as being a big differentiator between Stanford and other colleges recruiting these kids.  some like Tucker will choose to put in the work, gain admittance and we are all happy.  however, I believe a turnaround like Tucker is an outlier, and the concerns you have with Marshall to be more the norm.  I think this is one of many reasons to get more offers out earlier to try and expand our pool of recruits.  if we don't, we end up with a dicey end game.  last year worked out well, the year before not so well.

I was discussing this on the thread about whether or not Stanford had reached it's recruiting potential. I do not think Stanford will offer anyone but GT Granato (most likely an insurance policy) and Ricky Town (already offered) at Qb. Josh Rosen has said multiple times that he would have signed with Stanford after Junior Camp had they offered. I know some will say: Stanford offers people late because of academics. This is true, but the offer to Town if very telling. If Stanford takes a quarterback this year, it will be the best or none. This also underscores their absolute confidence in Keller Chryst as the future at QB. We need to go hard after Iman Marshall and finally get some A+ recievers.

Offers are always contingent on admission. on your string of admissions contingencies, I'd add continue to show development on the field.  we've had a few early offerees the past couple of years who did not show such development and the recruitment essentially stopped
