RE: Class of 2021 - BobK - 08-31-2020

Barrow has a recent 4.40 time

RE: Class of 2021 - BostonCard - 08-31-2020

I think Barrow's commitment is enough to lift us out of the Pac-12 cellar.  Still waiting for some big boys.  Right now our biggest commit is 6'4" 235 lb Shield Taylor.  We need front seven defenders and offesnive linemen.

Didn't Stanford have another RB, a while back, from Ontario, Canada? Kerry Carter maybe?

Thanks BobK and Mick, but neither link states where Kerry Carter went to high school (although I did learn that he was born in Trinidad and Tobago). Here's a link that outlines KC's HS and Stanford highlights:

Quote:In High School: A Prep All-American from Canada who was considered one of the prized recruits in 1999 ... Played only one game during the 1998 season because a teacher's strike in Ontario forced the cancellation of most of the football season ...

So far we have no commitments from players playing in the trenches on either side of the ball.  I find that disturbing.

all 3 stars and below.  1 commit > 200lbs.
hopeful there will be a strong close to this class.

RE: Class of 2021 - Phogge - 09-03-2020

They could play in the Eastern Lightweight League with a bunch of small Cadets and Midshipman.

we'd need to upgrade playcalling for sure in that league.  :)

RE: Class of 2021 - Papa John - 09-03-2020

The stars don't concern me but the lack of bulk does (per Rivals, Shield Taylor checks in at 230 lbs and Mitch Leighber is right at 200 lbs.). According to Rivals, here are the following uncommitted 2021 Stanford OL, DL and LB offers:

JACOB SCHUSTER
DT
6'2" 300
Tumwater, WA
STANFORD lean--Power 5 offers from UA, Cal, Duke, Mich, Minn, UW, WSU

NOLAN RUCCI
OL
6'8" 295
Lititz, PA
WISCONSIN lean--Power 5 offers from everywhere, but Stanford is listed in his top 9

KINGSLEY SUAMATAIA
OL
6'5" 285
Orem, UT
OREGON lean--Power 5 offers from everywhere, very strong UO lean per Rivals

JACK LEYRER
OL
6'7" 280
Dallas, TX
NORTHWESTERN/UT lean--lots of P5 offers and offers from the Ivies, no idea if Stanford has a chance here

J.T. TUIMOLOAU
DE
6'4" 275
Bellevue, WA
OHIO STATE lean--P5 offers from everywhere, very strong tOSU lean per Rivals

TYLER MARO
OL
6'7" 260
Davenport, IA
UNCLEAR--P5 offers from ASU, Cal, Duke, Ill, Indiana, ISU, KSU, Louisville, Nebraska, Ok State, Oregon, Syracuse, TCU, UCLA, Utah, Wake Forest plus offers from several Ivies--no idea if we have a chance here

AARON ARMITAGE
DE
6'5" 250
Blairstown, NJ
USC lean--P5 offers from everywhere, but a very strong USC lean per Rivals

ANTHONY FRANKLIN
DE
6'4" 240
Phoenix, AZ
UNCLEAR--P5 offers from UA, KSU, Mich St and most Ivies--no idea what are chances are per Rivals

ETHAN CALVERT
LB
6'3" 230
Westlake Village, CA
USC lean--P5 offers from UA, Cal, Col, LSU, Mich, Mich St, Nebraska, tOSU, UO, UCLA, USC, Utah, Vandy, UW, WSU

JEREMIAH WILLIAMS
LB
6'4" 225
Birmingham, AL
AUBURN lean--P5 offers from everywhere, no interest in Stanford per Rivals

JOHN HENRY DALEY
DE
6'4" 210
Highland, UT
BYU lean--Stanford is the only P5 offer per Rivals. A 210-lb DE?

TERRENCE COOKS
LB
6'3" 208
Pearland, TX
TEXAS lean--P5 offers from everywhere, very strong UT lean per Rivals

KAHANU KIA
LB
6'2" 205
Honolulu, HI
Utah lean?--P5 offers from UA, Col, ND, UCLA, Utah, WSU plus a couple of Ivies

Unless there is some significant stealth recruiting/flipping going on, this is going to be a lean class in every way imagineable...

A friend of mine's father played 150 lb football back east before the start of WWII, he said these guys were super tough, just as tough as the marines he served with while island treking through the Pacific.  He said that some of the 150 lb guys would play in the 150 lb game in the morning and then suit up again and play in the afternoon with the 'regular guys', like they started both games.  He said the 150 lbers played the game much better than the 'regular guys'.  The closes thing now days is Army, Navy and Air Force teams.  I loved it back when John Ralston was Stanford's head coach and played the service academies, I think there was a year when they payed at least two of the academy teams and maybe all three in the same year......?

The PAC-12 should replace SC with Air Force and have the remaining PAC-12 Teams play Army and Navy on a frequent basis.

RE: Class of 2021 - OutsiderFan - 09-03-2020

247 Crystal Ball is all USC for Armitage.

Cal fans are convinced they are getting Schuster.

Other than that, I have no idea. But it sure feels like Shaw is starting to experience how much urgency you must have in college football or you fall behind. No sport that I know about punishes complacency and lack of urgency more than college football.

RE: Class of 2021 - Phogge - 09-03-2020

Maple Leaf... I agree. I’ll never forget standing at the end of the Army game at Michie Stadium as the Corps sang the Alma Mater. The Stanford team stood behind the Cadets on the field in a show of respect. Also agree on Air Force. I have an idea that Covid may bring a conference shakeup. Colorado really belongs in the Big 12.

Agreed, OF. I would only add that, in Stanford's case, extreme urgency for quality depth on both lines of scrimmage are paramount. 2019 was a painful reminder of that.

RE: Class of 2021 - slide - 09-03-2020

Papa John:  at least per Eubanks twitter leaves, it appears much of your list has moved on and a couple are LDS so class of '23

Well then, Slide, I'm pulling for more stealth recruits and flipped commits.

RE: Class of 2021 - BostonCard - 09-03-2020

More aggressive offering for 2022 probably represents dwindling prospects for 2021.

RE: Class of 2021 - SamuelMcF - 09-03-2020

FWIW, recruiting sites list "210lb DEs" like John Henry Daley because they would be considered DEs in a 4-3 scheme after a year of bulking up. Edge rushers. Anyone you see like that is likely an OLB recruit in our 3-4 defense (really more like a 2-4-5 defense since we're in nickel the majority of the time).

I notice that trend especially on 247sports. Most of our "OLB" (4-3 OLB) offers are for ILB, and our "WDE" (4-3 DE) offers are for OLB.

Notes:
- You can cross off half the list
- Daley and Kia are LDS
- I don't think we ever publicly offered Jeremiah Williams
- The list is missing OL Drew Kendall, ILB Ese Dubre, OL Bryce Foster (not in play), and LB Smael Mondon (not in play)
- There are a few committed-elsewhere recruits possibly in play (as usual)...not going more specific than that
