Actually except for this year with no fans in most of CA I often run into Chris Hansen at travel tournaments. I don't know the others so can't say about them.

However I deon't believe you have to go to their camp to get ranked.

We are recruiting 4 of the top 7 and 7 of the top 19.

Crossing my fingers that we get them! Well, we don't even have room for 7, but it would be awesome to fill the class from these recruits.

I believe our needs for the 2022 class are:

1) More bigs - Brink and Iriafen are the only true bigs from '20 and '21

2) 3-point shooting - We have a lot of versatile players in '20 and '21 but not sure anyone is a "3-point shooter" like Jump or even Prechtel is in the class of '19.  Possibly Van Gytenbeek is a 3-point shooter but we will have to see

3) Point guard - Van Gytenbeek is the only point guard we have in the' 19, '20 and '21 classes

What we don't necessarily need right now are big slashing wings since we have Emma-Nnopu, Demetre and Bosgana in that role.

RE: NEW, June 16 Women's Basketball Recruiting - CardinalWBBFan - 10-16-2020

If I'm reading the rules on extra-eligibility (and I very well may be misinterpreting), everyone who is on the Stanford roster in 2020-21 will get an extra season of eligibility, but additional scholarships are only given for one year (the 2021-22 season). That could make for some interesting recruiting cycles.

Rice, Gardiner, and Betts would be a fantastic class!

That is correct.  It means that all the current juniors will be redshirt juniors next year and redshirt seniors in the 2022-23 season.  So, conceivably we could just bring everyone back (if they wanted to come back), or some of them would have to be given the chance to enter the transfer portal in order to stay within the scholarship limit.  Given the prospect of taking in 3 top 10 prospects, there may be some difficult decisions ahead.

harriel played point guard in high school; the services list her as a "combo guard." i believe tara is grooming haley jones to play point (as well as all 4 other spots). that said, i agree, we can definitely use another point guard

RE: NEW, June 16 Women's Basketball Recruiting - BobK - 10-16-2020

John I saw Harriel play last season in HS abd she didn’t play the point

Timea Gardiner's AAU coach is Natalie Williams - ex UCLA great. Sure she's in her ear often

Jones can certainly play a point forward role in initiating our offense but I would rather have someone else bring the ball up the court especially if they are facing pressure from the opposing team's guards.  We need Jones fresh to do what our team needs the most help with which is score or set up another player to score.  It wasn't ideal when Nicole Powell was here and had to do everything, bring up the ball, set up the offense, drive, score, rebound ...

Great point about Powell.  I think it's vital to keep Jones healthy.  I think we do want to give her as many touches and options as possible but I sure hope that is not in the context of standing around and waiting for one player to make things happen.

A few features on some Stanford recruits:

Also of note: Gardiner is down to Stanford, Notre Dame, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, and Arizona State.

I like how Stanford is listed first for both Betts and Gardiner.

Also, 2024 Kendall Dudley, whom the article says could be the top player in the class, goes to the same school as Kiki Rice and has a 4.0 GPA.

RE: NEW, June 16 Women's Basketball Recruiting - Spiny_Norman - 10-21-2020

I have a dream. My dream is that Stanford finally gets one of Vanessa Nygaard's stellar guards from LA Windward High (after Jordin Canada and Charisma Osborne both went to UCLA). I hope that Judea Watkins proves to have the right mix of academic achievement and interest to choose the Cardinal.

i could be wrong, but it was my impression that charisma osborne did not lack interest or academics; rather, with fran belibi, ashten prechtel, and (hopefully) haley jones in the class,  we did not have room for both hannah jump and charisma. we chose hannah over charisma. the decision disappointed me, for one. no disrespect to hannah, who is a fine player, but charisma was the more celebrated of the 2 and seemed to me the more promising.

I think Osborne might be the better overall basketball player but I think Jump was the right choice for Stanford.  One of the things Stanford does really well is get three-point shooters good open shots.  For that strategy to pay off, you need good three-point shooters to take the shot.  Think of all the plays we ran to get Karlie Samuelson an open three during her senior year.  Jump is that great three-point shooter we need in our offense.  She made 41% of her threes vs 33% for Osborne.

Agree with you in large parts. But in reality, what has that done for us? We may regularly be a contender...but it is really ya a contender for the final four. It’s been a decade since most women’s basketball fans really put Stanford as a real contender for a championship. There’s always been hope, but it was based on a superior athletic team slipping.

Charisma can score inside or out. Hannah is one dimensional, which has become a trademark of Stanford ball. Hoping this slew of recent great recruits can change that up!

Respectfully, kinda feels like we're 2+ years late to this debate. Jump committed in February 2018, and that recruiting class finished out with overall no. 1 recruit Haley Jones announcing her commitment to Stanford on live TV. Not sure what the point is of relitigating this two years after the fact.

I'd rather focus on imaging the possibility we could get three consensus top ten recruits in Betts, Gardiner, and Rice, as I think we are definitely likely finalists for all three.
