It's over... Down goes Yukon at home 69-64.

Tara is leading by double digits.

Delicious.

<Note to self: Must not get too giddy. Must not get too giddy. Don't tempt the woofing gods lest WSU finally get theirs...>

Can someone explain to me why Stanford drops a place in the Massey Rankings (to 3 behind Indiana) after beating two top 25 teams -- yes, yes, USC no long is one -- while U Conn rises one place (to 4) after losing to a totally unranked team? And yes, these rankings are through the games of yesterday, i.e., after U Conn lost. I guess the algorithm did it!

I think it has to do with the new results of other teams we and Yukon have previously played, which causes our and Yukon's results against them to be reweighted.

Tara is leading by double digits.
It's been a delight to celebrate Tara as she became the all-time winningest coast in WBB, but I had been fretting how close Geno was to passing her.  Check out how Tara's lead over Geno has changed in recent seasons:

Lead at the end of:
2014-15 35
2015-16 24
2016-17 20
2017-18 8
2018-19 4
2019-20 2
2020-21 5
2021-22 8
Current 10

A remarkable turnaround, especially given that UConn has been playing in a weak Big East conference since 2019-20. Thank you Funky Four, Kiana Williams, Cameron Brink, Lexie Hull, Anna Wilson and all!

I suspect it is more than the players. I think Tara has been helped by her other coaches/recruiters

Good point, MT.  Kate Paye, in particular, has the reputation of producing many of the best scouting reports in WBB.  She is incredibly bright and knows how to dissect an opposing team.  It also gets easier to implement her scouts the more times we play an opponent (it does for the opponents, too, sadly) which leads to our defense significantly improving as the conference season wears on.

TVO out for the rest of the season at Oregon State, undisclosed injury.

Just saw the top 16 reveal -- has BOTH Stanford and Utah as #1 seeds (in order of seeding, SC / Indiana / Stanford / Utah). Can they both still be #1s after the game on Saturday? Or after whatever happens in the Pac-12 tournament? I suspect not.

Wow! I didn't realize Utah was that high. I suppose other teams have lost and they're the next up.

LSU has a better record, fewer losses, but I think this reveal is showing the committee is respecting the strength of the Pac-12. Rest of reveal  5) LSU; 6) maryland; 7) UConn; 8) Virginai Tech; 9) Iowa; 10) Notre Dame; 11) Duke; 12) Ohio State; 13) Texas; 14) Villanova; 15) Arizona; 16) Michigan

So we’re poised to stay a number 1 seed. Especially if we can beat Utah Saturday or in Pac12 tourney or both.

I was watching Maryland curb stomping Iowa the other day and the announcers were going on and on about how the B1G was the best conference in WBB.  What a load of BS.

RE: WBB: Other Teams 22-23 season - martyup - 02-23-2023

South Carolina had a first quarter against Tenn similar to ours against Colorado.  10-19.

Tonight WSU beat #17 UCLA.

Oregon leads #14 AZ by 10 at the half.

Not good for the Pac-12's seeding in the big dance.

Maybe not good for seeding, but it speaks to how tough the Pac-12 is.

Looks like UCLA didn't recover as well as Stanford from our tough game with them on Monday.  They lost at home to WSU tonight.

Despite their lofty ranking, it's surprising that UCLA really doesn't have any especially impressive wins - USC and Tennessee are the best.

They did beat Marquette and SdState in nonconference and played South Carolina close. I would also add with the uneven Pac12 schedule; UCLA only played Utah and Colorado ONCE and so factor that into their record. Could have been two additional loses potentially.

AZ falls to OR 73-59.

ASU is no longer winless in the Pac-12, beat OSU 75-73

She just doesn’t seem happy at OSU. Now injured. I wonder if she’s considering transferring. Do we have a scholarship for her?
