Aly Kaneshiro's Dear Softball letter (which is a tradition for graduating seniors at the WCWS).


Thank you Aly, Kaitlyn, Ellee, and Regan for all you provided to a program we as fans care about. 

This three year run has been so much fun and would have been unexpected to, I think, many fans in 2022, given the lows the program suffered in the not too distant past under a different coaching staff. But this renaissance of Stanford softball has been fantastic, and this year's senior class definitely have made their mark on that.

More hitting can always help, but I will point to Oklahoma State and UCLA at the WCWS (to say nothing of LSU etc.) who had prolific offenses, filled with experienced seniors, and all of whom could not get past a team whose lineup had 6 freshmen or sophomores (that being Stanford). 

I think better #2 pitching could/was helpful in our 2023 run, to give NiJaree some innings off.

However, I think, to jump off of something Coach Allister said in the postgame press conference: Stanford needs more bites at the proverbial apple in OKC (if they can earn them), and ultimately, some luck.

For as good as Texas has played in Oklahoma City (against us etc.), they were very fortunate to even advance out of their super regional (they trailed in the series 1-0 against Texas A&M, and 5-1 entering the 6th in Game #2). Softball is less random than college baseball, but even the best teams need luck (which is the byproduct of hard work, as the expression goes) to win a national championship.

Interesting coincidence.
Texas's star pitcher Teagan Kavan went to the same high school as Caitlin Clark.
Not at the same time, of course.
