RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - WBB fan - 07-12-2023

The gostanford article makes it sound like Bird is an asst coach with the same status as Tempe, or perhaps junior to her. But if both are genuinely assistant coaches in addition to Katy, does this mean the rules have changed and a team can now have five assistant coaches?

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - BobK - 07-12-2023

Yes the rules changed for several sports WBB being one. I don't know about 5 assistants we have 4 with Bird.

SC & UCLA gave us tons of trouble last season and both teams will be significantly improved with their newly acquired talent.  Facing them @ Maples gives us a fighting chance, but I'm not sure we can do better than a split.  I can't see us beating the Utes in their gym, especially with their crowd and we've been barely scraping by the Buffs.  Clearly the 4 toughest games on our conference schedule.

Hoping the weather will be kinder to us, allowing the team to get to Boulder and/or Salt Lake with reasonable time to prep and be ready.

Seems like we got the most favorable schedule. Utah, Colorado, UCLA and USC were all top-6 teams last year and we only have to play them once.

I agree, and I boldly predict a 15-3 final 2023 PAC12 regular season record,
assuming no injuries to Stanford's Top 6 players (BRINK, JUMP, LEPOLO, IRIAFEN,
DEMETRE and BOSGANA) during PAC 12 play.

I started a new thread FIBA 2023 U19.  You can put your posts there.

LSU coming at players with buckets o'money. Whoda thunk? Oh, wait...
Quote:“I don’t think anyone’s on par with LSU,” Roberts said. “I’ve heard some stories that are just mind-blowing. But in terms of our conference, I think we’re fairly competitive. I think the SEC, south, it’s very, very different. It’s a different ballgame. And it’s a different set of integrity and, you know, code of ethics and all of that. They just do things differently.”
I thought her interview to be very revealing.  The subtext is that LSU  bought itself a national championship.

Highly encouraging, except for the inveterate Lepolo haters.

Likely more lucrative than NIL.  And (so far) NCAA legal.

Really hoping that Bosgana's development and confidence have grown in the off season, resulting in her joining the starting five.  IF she has truly developed, you have a 6'2 physical guard who can shoot and likes contact would do wonders in taking defensive pressure off Jump (and indirectly) Brink.   That would be a formidable lineup.

If we go independent , we can look forward to a full slate of games like this. All kidding aside, I fear it’s a very short time before our non Sr. Women’s bb players hit the portal. I’d like to believe that a first rate degree outweighs a second rate schedule and status but Imdont  believe that is the case.

triangle2 - triangle2 - 08-09-2023

But some of us remember when the PAC-10 was a crap conference other than Stanford, except for brief periods of competency and tournament appearances by USC/UCLA/Washington. It’s not like Coach Tara doesn’t remember, or Kate Paye for that matter. We can go back to scheduling a tough preseason and then enduring the “why should Stanford get a high seed because the conference sucks” discussions. I’m not particularly worried about WBB. Some of the other non revenue sports I do worry about. As in: which sports are going to be dropped.
