“The two teams combined for 31 runs on 39 hits, 12 walks and seven hit-by-pitches.”
I’m still tired… We next play NC State on 5/15 in the ACC tourney.

My bad, I misunderstood when they said they were going to the tourney (without coming back).

Also, this win leaves them at 26-24.
So, even if they lose the last game of the regular season and they lose the first (and only) game of the ACC tournament, the team finishes with a 0.500 season. Of course, I hope they finish way above 0.500 ! But, even if the season didn't go as planned, it isn't a losing season.
Dang Sling's recording cut short the ending as they usually do. Last they showed, the game was tied going into the bottom of the 9th. I figured that meant they had lost in the bottom of the 9th. I'm so glad I was wrong.

27-24 record. An improvement over last season (I know, low bar). Late season run could make the ACC tournament interesting. A spot in the NCAA is still a stretch.

Could be worse. #16 Cal's game vs #9 Miami started at 9 am...Eastern. And Cal won 12-2.

VA Tech wins 7-4 over Stanford, despite Stanford rallying for two runs in the top of the 9th. Stanford had 7 hits in the whole game :( Volchko takes the loss, giving up five runs, all earned, on seven hits over five innings. Four walks, ow.

So that's it, then. :( The tournament is single elimination and there will be no NCAA berth. The season looked so promising at first. But the pitching never fulfilled its potential and frankly has been mostly wretched, especially after the break.
What will Esquer do? Just hope his recruits perform better or will he make changes to the staff? It seems to me that under Marquess, players improved the most after playing in a summer league. Do they still do that?

The fact that you had to ask if players play in the summer shows how much you know about college baseball!!!! The pitching let this team down this year. As a position player, if you know you have to score 8+ runs in a game because you know your pitching is not holding. Changes how your approach. How many times did this offense get leads, and pitching not hold that lead???
I think Esquer needs to look at a new pitching coach. That is an area that does not seem to develop. Losing Becera will hurt. How do they let these athletes go because they cannot get into graduate school??? He enters the portal for just that reason as he has one more year of eligibility left. I think Esquer needs to get on the horn to Black Jack McDowell to come in here and develop the pitching!!!

The top 11 teams in the ACC all finished within 5 games of each other. All of them got in except for Virginia and Notre Dame. Both of them got their bubbles popped by the Boston College ACC tourney run. Georgia Tech took the ACC regular season with a 19-11 record but won't host, going to Ole Miss instead. Virginia finished 6th in the ACC standings but got done in by a sub-60 RPI and bids getting stolen by Nebraska and a few others.
A bit ironically, if Stanford were playing in the old Pac-12 this year that would have been no picnic either. Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Arizona and ASU all tourney teams. How we would have done against that competition is anyone's guess. Washington wasn't a tourney contender but we did sweep them in a four-game series.
We now see that even last-place Cal could get up for the big stage as they toppled Miami and Wake Forest in the ACC tourney before Georgia Tech stopped them cold. It was the Cal and Virginia series that triggered our downward spiral. If we could have just won one game against Cal instead of getting swept, and taken two out of three at Virginia (we had winning positions in all three games) then, even if all the other gank were kept equal, it would have radically altered the complexion of our season with a 14-16 record in the ACC and we would be tourney-bound more likely than not. We'll have to do a critical evaluation in the offseason -- if family matters did distract Thomas Eager during live game action, that has to be dealt with.

Fun fact (but check my work). Stanford went 7-8 against teams in the post-season. I counted Duke (3-0), Ga Tech (0-3), Clemson (1-2), NC State (2-1), and Wake Forest (1-2).
