It's worth keeping an eye on things in College Station, where Liberty has upset #1 Texas A&M. Whoever wins in Eugene plays the winner of who comes out of College Station.

For those not watching, a 9-run top of the 6th, with a shutdown bottom half leads to a 14-1 run-rule win over the home team Oregon.
Houston had a good day pitching.
Most disappointing thing is the ESPN announcers (in the following show) describing this as a major upset.

I think the “upset” is the magnitude of the win. I think had it been a 4-3, 9 inning game, no one would have called it a major upset. But I think even people here were pleasantly surprised that we had a 14-1 run-rule win.

Stanford relying on its strategy from last year and 2022 (where Stanford advanced both times out of a Game 7) of saving its best performing arm for the decisive contest. The team and coaches have done a great job to get our squad in this position (when a lot of other #2 seeds have been far less competitive). It is on Alyssa's arm now, and hope she can get this team over the finish line.
Joie Economides delivers! Oregon unbelievably drops the third out in the top of the first, and later in the at-bat, Joie clears the bases with a deep grand slam to left!

This strategy might work out but when a team gets momentum and confidence they can be hard to stop. Why not start Houston in the first game today and see how it goes? If Stanford would have built up a big lead by the second inning you could have taken Houston out and rested her for the second game if needed. It would give you two chances at a win.
I've never coached a DI college team to a world series so this is not any criticism. It's me trying to understand the reasons this is the superior strategy.
FWIW, I feel sorry for Chung. She has lost her control and doesn't know how to regain it. I'm sure she is trying her best so I only have empathy for her.
