RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - johnbar - 11-15-2021

The predicted end of season RPI is now #33 (up from #36), and a final record of 16-12.
With two weeks left, this is probably pretty accurate.

The Pablo computer rankings have Stanford #23.

Congratulations to Caitie Baird on her second Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week Award!

I was looking for recent matches on youtube, and found this instead:

Highlights of the ceremony honoring Denise Corlett (5 minutes):

And the complete program (1:18):

Haven't watched it yet.

Thanks for posting.  I talked to Denise occasionally.  Very nice person.   She kept everything about the team and recruits top secret which is a good policy.  I hope Hambly has someone in place who gets the same respect and stature in the club community to be a top recruiter.

So what's the latest on Miner?

What about Mendelson?  Why has she not committed publicly yet?  Is there any possibility Stanford is still in the mix?  I doubt it but it sure would be a big help moving forward.

Volleyballmag.com break-down predictions of who gets invited to the big dance.  Does not consider Stanford a lock at this point in time.

Near-locks:

Stanford (14-10, 9-7 Pac-12, RPI 29) –It feels very strange to have to write a blurb about the Cardinal at all. But recently losing five out of six including an 0-2 trip to the Arizona schools doesn’t look great, even if yes, Stanford was significantly shorthanded on that road trip. 4-8 vs the top 25 without any truly bad losses makes this incredibly likely. Colorado and USC are both teams that could beat Stanford if everything breaks right and would cause a significant drop in RPI — just win one and you’re safe, Stanford. Even with just a win over Cal, you’re probably fine, but let’s not sweat that, OK?

Congrats ? to @ImocoVolley, including U.S. National Teamers Megan Courtney and Kathryn Plummer, for winning its 73rd straight match on Sunday and breaking the Italian women's VB record for consecutive wins.

They will go for the world record on Nov. 21.

Mendelson to Nebraska. So basketball not that important.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 11-20-2021

Perhaps this is the part of the reason Nebraska landed Mendelson:

https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/o...8bb2e.html

If the Husker volleyball team had a day off from practice, Reyes was on a plane to visit Mendelson.

“They were down in Utah pretty much every other week,” Mendelson said of both staffs. “So it was just awesome to see them all of the time. And both staffs made it down to Mexico when I played for USA. It was just awesome to see how invested they were in me, and how invested they were in building this relationship.”

I hope the assistants Hambly has chosen have the same drive, budget, and recruiting skills.

California high school volleyball: No. 1 Marymount sweeps Archbishop Mitty to cap CIF action

Elia Rubin paced Marymount with 10 kills as Kerry Keefe and Torrey Stafford each added nine in the straight-sets victory.

25-11, 25-5, 25-14

Elia Rubin, a true six rotation OH, should help Stanford next year.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 11-21-2021

I see Rubin as back row only next year.
Marymount beat Pringle’s team in the SoCal final

No worries.  I was happy when I saw your post, as I think Vicini brings a lot to the team… but player of the year seemed a tad over the top, so I checked on it. Player of the week was well-deserved, though.

Hope she keeps it up vs. SC.

POW isn’t a term I like. So I flaked out

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - joemontes - 11-25-2021

At this point, Stanford will most likely finish 13-7 PAC-12 and 18-10 overall.

For the forthcoming NCAA Tourney, they will most likely play on the road and bracketed with one of the regional 3-seeds during the 1st and 2nd Rounds (based on their current and predicted final Pablo ranking). Assuming this, I do see them having a 50-50 chance of continuing to the 2nd week.

Other than that, I'm just looking forward to the next two seasons when this group can take it to the next level while staying healthy.  Potentially, they have Top 3 overall talent nationwide, just considering the potential starting line-up of ALL Top 10 recruits:

OH1 - 6'3 BAIRD                #2 PrepVolley / #3 VolleyMag
OH2 - 6'6 FRANCIS            #2 VolleyMag / #5 PrepVolley
OPP - 6'5 KIPP                   #2 VolleyMag / #3 PrepVolley
MB1 - 6'2 VICINI               #10 PrepVolley
MB2 - 6'5 Leilah SMITH    #5 PrepVolley
SET  - 6'0 MINER                #4 PrepVolley / #5 VolleyMag

Even incoming freshman OH RUBIN is Top 10 overall, isn't she?

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 11-25-2021

Rubin 13 prep VB but they will update their Sr aces soon

If someone wanted to start a thread about the 2021 NCAA tournament, that would be good.  If not I think this thread would be better for future comments about the tournament than the Cal Match thread.

Kami Miner is Pac-12 FOW and FOY.

Baird and Kipp are all-conference; Sami Francis is on the all-freshman team, with Miner, who is also HM for all-conference.

Well-deserved for Miner, and actually a bit surprised she didn’t make the all-conference team above HM.  She is already one of the top setters in the PAC-12.
