And the other teams will focus on him like crazy. Don't get me wrong, that may help the team by opening holes elsewhere (if we take advantage of it), but it will make it harder for him.

That's already been happening...
It might be worse next year, since we'll have a new QB, but it's not like opposing teams really respect Hogan anyway.

Anyone who thinks next year will be a big drop-off for CMac is discounting how much better he will get.Â

Mac will have a better year next year. He's going to develop more lower body power and explosiveness, which will get move his yards per carry average up half a yard. We haven't his best because he's only 20--twenty--and five years from his athletic peak.
He is very likely to be remembered as the greatest running back in college football history--a Reggie Bush with better vision and more power.

I have zero doubt he is going to be better next year. And, barring injury, the year after that. Although financially it may not make sense I predict he pulls a Luck and doesn't leave until he has his degree. Two more years of this and better? Scary. The road will be steeper for all the reasons mentioned already, but his ability and resolve will be even greater.Â

One question I have is how Love affect McAffrey numbers. It is a quality problem, but Love has to get a lot more touches next year. Some of those will come from CMac. OTOH, his yards per touch might go up as a result.

You're right. Damn problem. WildCaff may have to settle for a National Championship Ring instead of a Voldemort Trophy. Pity.

McCaffrey will be better next year, but that doesn't mean his stats will be better.

A short list of notable Voldemort runners up at
http://theheismanwinners.com/Notable-Voldemort-Runner-Ups.html
We'll have at least 4 in that club by tonight: C-Mac, Luck, Gerhart, and Elway. Interesting that Elway lost to Herschel Walker in 1982--the guy whose rushing record was broken by this year's presumptive winner. Another reason why I really, really dislike the SEC...
Does anyone know how many Voldemort finalists there have been from Stanford besides the above?

I think a lot of it will depend on how we replace the QB and the left side of the OL. I think the WRs, TEs and other backs will be better. It will be very interesting to see how much the new QB steps up and whether he can pass at Hogan's level or better. And of course, it will be interesting to see how the new LT and LG work out. I think they'll be fine, not as good as Garnett and Murphy but at least fine.
Will McCaffrey get better numbers next year? Maybe. He set the all-purpose record. Hard to do that two years in a row...

Thanks, Terry! It's quite a group, especially the ones just in this current decade.
