OT, but to continue Mick and Cornfed's Iowa distinctions/fun facts: Iowa has the most towns/cities of population 2000 or greater of any state in the US.
I was born in Davenport, but lived in Barnes City, population 98 (at that time; it's since ballooned up to 188). However, once my folks left during a -40 degree winter to visit friends in California, it was a no-brainer to move here within a year. Likewise, most of my relatives who have visited California have eventually moved here. "How you gonna keep'em down on the farm once they've been to Paree?" (Paris, for the younger crowd.)
Besides Cornfed, I've noticed over the years LOTS of Iowa-connected CARDboarders. Though there was some regret about our opponent not being OSU, I suspect a good share of the board's populace are pleased to play Iowa, just so (after Stanford's victory) we can have yet another reason to tout California to our relatives who have yet to leave the Midwest (not that they could afford to live here now).

I'm perplexed. Stanford has already won a Football National Championship. Over Clemson.

You mean Futball.

Injuries, scheduling, the strength of schedule, recruiting, capricious natures of young men still finding themselves...there are a lot of random factors out there. Enjoy the ride :)

I think having the Big Game at Levi's annually would be fun to consider. Neutral site rivalry games used to be a thing, and there are still a few remaining (Red River
Shootout Rivalry Showdown, Florida-Georgia come to mind immediately). I don't know the logistics behind it at all, so it could be a ridiculous idea. But I think it would lend a little national street cred to an under-appreciated rivalry.

You would get less student turnout, I think. Going off campus always results in attendance attrition for at least one student body. Now if the TV networks paid serious money for a neutral field, I'm sure it would happen.

My dad was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa. But I was born in Redondo Beach, California. So another midwesterner tempted west.

2017 could be a great run
Favorable schedule, with Notre Dame, Oregon, UCLA, and Washington at home, USC only scary away game.
Mac in his final season, Love in his third, Irwin in his third, Chryst with a year experience. Schultz and Kaden Smith at TE, Tucker and Fanaika grinding up front, with Marx leading the RBs.Â
A shut down defensive backfield led by All Con Holder, second team all con Meeks, and HM all con Reid, with All American DL Solomon Thomas upfront, Harrison Phillips and Dylan Jackson alongside, and a terrific LB backing them, led by all conference LB Alfieri and perhaps two brobdingnagian contributing sophomores, Curtis Robinson and Jefrey McCullouch.

Why do we think McCaffrey will stay a 4th year? I know he doesn't really project as a first-round pick, but neither did Carter and he left.

I don't care, but I do care. But the tables are so slanted against the Pac-12 that I don't expect it will happen, so more than anything else I am enjoying the Golden Age of Stanford Football.

Yeah, I remember the good ol days, when I bought drinks for the Vow Boys after another USC beat down. One was too young to drink but I snuck him a bit from my flask. These runs come and go. Enjoy this one, folks. They come along every 80 years or so. Just think, you'll be able to tell your great grandchildren about the time you offered to buy the great hall of famer Christian McCaffrey a drink, but he said, "No thank you, sir. I'm not yet 21." Oh, and Garvin. Do you remember what Pop Warner said to Steinbeck at the reunion? Let's just keep it our secret. Along with that "lost" manuscript of his.Â

Thanks for posting, Langdude. Barnes City didn't have a grocery store, so we drove 20 miles to the big town/county seat of Oskaloosa (popul. 5000) for the food we didn't grow ourselves. Small world.

That's awesome. I have yet to make the pilgrimage there. According to the last census, the population is up over 10,000 now, and growing!
To bring it somewhat back to the initial topic of the thread, Oskaloosa was the birthplace of Eddie Anderson, a College Football Hall of Fame coach at Iowa (and elsewhere, including Holy Cross). Anderson was an All-American at N.otre Dame under Knute Rockne; ND only lost one game while Anderson was there - to Iowa. He played briefly in the NFL before heading off to medical school in Chicago (Rush Medical College), where he also coached football (and basketball) at DePaul at the same time! Anderson was always a practicing physician in addition to football coach (often working at the University of Iowa hospital in the morning before coming to football practice in the afternoon), and served in WWII as a medic.
Iowa's had a lot of great people come out of it.

"Iowa's had a lot of great people come out of it."
(Entertainment) John Wayne, Buffalo Bill Cody, Johnny Carson, Donna Reed (my Dana Delaney, Garvin), Elijah Wood, Ashton Kutcher, Ringling brothers, Harry Langdon, Ron Livingston; (music) Glenn Miller, Andy Williams; (sports) Bob Feller, 49ers' Roger Craig, Steve Bartkowski (boooo!), Kurt Warner, wrestling HOFer Dan Gable; (commerce) Halston, Russell Stover candy; TV journalist Harry Reasoner, author Sara Paretsky, and Ann Landers; 31st president Herbert Hoover and former California governor Frank Merriam; (science) James Van Allen, Robert Noyce; labor leader John Lewis; WWII's Sullivan brothers; and last but not least, Star Trek's James T. Kirk and numerous notable Indian chiefs.
Not too flashy, but all solid people. Like the football team we'll face in the RB.

Not to mention Fred Deming. After WWII he is credited w/ organizing the modern manufacturing process in Japan that lead to the post-war miracle growth of that nation. And Ann Landers twin, the eponymous "Ask Abby". My mother grew up with them. They were known as Eppie and PoPo.

Indeed so, WIM. It's a pretty well-known incubator for some wonderful writers. I believe it is part of the University of Iowa.

Including my wife! And while I am very glad we live in Colorado instead of Iowa, Dubuque (and nearby Galena, IL) isn't a bad place to visit.Â
Back to the topic at issue here, though, I think there's an outside chance of a title in two years. The schedule is again favorable, we would have a more seasoned Keller Chryst, potentially Christian McCaffrey if he's being told he'll be a mid-round pick after next year, and hopefully a return to traditional defensive form and a continuation of great TE play (a seasoned Schultz with others), great OL play, and solid WR play. If that's the team we roll out in 2 years, it's conceivable to finish that season undefeated and in the playoff.
