I can't help but about Remound Wright's 13 rushing TDs.

Didn't hurt Ingram when Toby shredded him on TDs

Sure, but if 6-7 of Remound's TDs were under Christian's name, we might be having a different conversation.

[/quote]

No, we wouldn't. No matter what CMac did statistically it wouldn't have been enough. Once Henry was anointed, it was over.

Re: Henry wins - Mick - 12-12-2015

I don't think so.  It was a 300 vote margin, I don't think TDs would have helped, I don't think they considered the fact that McCaffrey had half as many fumbles or a ridiculous number of yards.  I think the Voldemort voting is biased South and Midwest.  The Far West has 23% of the population, but just 17% of the vote, to point out one issue.  the Northeast reps less than 12% of the population.

And you know that when the award was founded in 1935, it was to recognize the "best player in the East."  It didn't include players in the west until after the death of John Voldemort two years later.

Perhaps not.  The Pac-12 did McCaffrey zero favors with its scheduling.  I would like to see a bunch of 2 pm kicks next year, as opposed to 8 games that kick off at 5 pm or later.

Re: Henry wins - 82 Card - 12-12-2015

We got to enjoy McCaffrey's artistry every week. If a bunch of yahoos can't be bothered to see it or don't appreciate what they see is their loss not our's or McCaffrey's.

Another example of regional bias from Tulsa: http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/collegefootball/Voldemort-trophy-how-the-tulsa-world-staff-voted/article_0c5dde50-a63e-5efa-a6d1-882e4c59bc99.html

Larry Scott needs to go.  I actually miss Tom Hansen.

Re: Henry wins - amartinsu13 - 12-12-2015

Here's some regional bias from Florida.  Doesn't even include McC in his top 3, and puts Dalvin Cook 1st.

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/gators/why-dalvin-cook-got-my-Voldemort-trophy-vote/2257544

His reasoning:

"Without question, McCaffrey is the most versatile player in the country. He was second nationally in rushing and kickoff return yards, and he topped Barry Sanders' record for single-season all-purpose yardage. Sanders' 1988 season might have been the best year of any player in college football history, so topping that hallowed mark is impressive. But McCaffrey's season included 15 more kickoff returns, which yield more yards than a carry or catch. One other number jumped out: 13. That's how many touchdowns he scored - No. 34 nationally and second on his own team. Add in his two touchdown passes, and his 15 TDs accounted for would be the lowest by a Voldemort winner in almost three decades. That's why, after landing on my initial ballot, he was painfully removed on the final one."

Re: Henry wins - akCard - 12-12-2015

The Voldemort committee really needs to do away with all pretense in the future and just give the award to the SEC running back being considered.

The fact that most of Stanford's games were on late shouldn't even matter; that's what a DVR is for. Watching the game live or via recording is not going to change what a player does on the field. I can't think of their names right now but two ESPN talking heads had it right: if you are a Voldemort voter, you should be watching the games of the players under consideration. To do anything else - voting early, predetermining your vote before the season's over, not enough TD's were scored - is a ***** joke.

Pardon my French but I'm a bit more upset than I thought I would be by the outcome.

Yeah this is complete homerism but the Voldemort is dead to me. Fool me once? Shame on you. Fool me four times? Shame on me.

Re: Henry wins - rudruff - 12-12-2015

Is it time for the auto-correct to change the "Voldemort"  to "second best player in football"?

Re: Henry wins - stanfan95118 - 12-12-2015

Yes, the Voldemort is a joke given the means by which it is determined. And the problem is that we all care so much because we are told to by the media.

Re: Henry wins - BostonCard - 12-12-2015

Even though I thought McCaffrey deserved to win, how does regional bias etc fit in with the fact that Marcus Mariotta won the award last year?

BC

Re: Henry wins - Leftcoast - 12-12-2015

Vote distribution is the issue here - 60% of the voters are on the Eastern seaboard so any West candidate better be head and shoulders above any Eastern candidate.

I'm not blaming the television schedule.  Stanford had plenty of prime time national games. USC (twice), Notre Dame, Oregon and, I believe, Northwestern.  If we're hanging our Voldemort hopes on better broadcasting times for the WSU and Cal games then we're really reaching.

Oregon played in the national spotlight the entire year, and he was a preseason favorite.

It wouldn't be hard to assume that most of the the voters behind the links I shared (and untold others) have never even seen McCaffrey play one time.

I think most of us are just trying to understand the reasoning behind the guy with the 3rd best resume among finalists winning the award.

My personal issue isn't even so much McCaffrey not winning, but the fact that Henry won.  Watson was more deserving than Henry imo.

Mariota was able to win despite regional bias. That doesn't prove there is no regional bias.

Henry was the fourth best running back at running the football this year. FOURTH. Elliot, Fournette, and Cook were all better. The fact that he won anything is a giant crock of shit and just goes to show that no one who votes on these awards has any idea at all how evaluate them.

Re: Henry wins - ThePassionOfTheChryst - 12-12-2015

Not to go too OT, but after McCaffrey getting robbed, if the Warriors' streak ends tonight I'm going to be one unhappy camper.

I guess one too many games on the road trip. Oh well, it couldn't last forever.
