Yup. Tennessee, which had been in 9th missed the cut when they went +15 for the day and fell 7 spots. On the other hand, Arkansas shot +10 for the day and didn't move. #1 Alabama, who was in danger of missing the cut, jumped 7 teams and made it in at #14. At 4+ for the tournament so far, and sitting at #5, we are in a good position to advance, but we will still need a good game tomorrow. Still 6 Pac-12 teams in the top 9, so the Pac-12 ought to be well represented in match play.

#1 Alabama's not making the 8-team cut...not from 28 strokes back. From whence this $EC bias this year?

While tennis drama unfolds in Tulsa, out in Eugene the Cardinal are in fifth place at -1 for the day currently on holes 2 through 5.
Top eight teams advance to match play tomorrow. Cardinal currently stand 6 strokes ahead of the cut line.
Geaux Cardinal!

Moreover, only South Carolina from the OMG-SEC is in line to make match play. On the other hand, 5 pac-12 teams are, and Arizona is tied for 8th.

I dunno how Bama got to #3 earlier, but they made the jump from #3 to #1 after beating then-#6 UCLA in early April at a Georgia tournament. Their #5, sophomore Nicole Morales, is having a really, really rough tournament showing :-[

Competition is extremely tight with only 11 shots between 1st and 8th. We could see a lot of movement around the Red Line on the scoreboard today -

I continue to be surprised at the scores of the Stanford players on the par 5s. Statistically, they are among the easiest holes for the field, but Stanford has not helped themselves much at all on them. As a team, they are +2 on the par 5s this week. Every other team currently in the field is under par. The individual leader Virginia Elena Carta from Duke is -7 all by herself.
Stanford however has done a great job on the par 3s. Eugene CC has some tough par 3s where a player can make a big number. But Stanford as a team is -2.Â
As players are starting to make the turn, Stanford is -2 for the round and +2 for the tournament. The team in 9th is seven shots back.

So far so good today. -2 for the day and +2 for the tournament, good for a tie for 4th with UW, and 7 shots clear of the 9th place teams.

The birdies are out there for teams that go get them. Oklahoma St is -6 today.Â
If you are able to watch a tv, turn on the Golf Channel. The on course coverage begins at 4, but they are broadcasting a live pre-game right now.

We are now 8 strokes clear of the 9th place teams (Arizona, Oregon [who imploded today at +5] and Northwestern). Looks like a three-way battle for first between UCLA, USC, and DUke, a two way battle for fourth between us and UW, then three teams at +7 (Virginia, South Carolina, and on-fire Ok State), then the aforementioned three teams on the out looking in.

But even if we switch places with UW we still play each other to start match play, right?

And just like that, they are back even for the day and on the outside looking in for match play.
We are hanging in at #5, -1 for the day, 9 strokes ahead of #9 Ok State. We should be in good shape barring an epic collapse in the last 4-6 holes.

Not to tempt the woofing gods. But
if UW and Stanford finish 4th and 5th, they will play each other in the quarterfinals tomorrow. There is a possible advantage to being 4th. In assigning who plays in each position, Stanford would get to decide if they want to choose 1st or defer to UW.

I'd love to see Stanford win back-to-back women's golf championships. But if we can't win it, I really hope that neither U-S-C nor UCLA wins it. I'll be pulling for their opponents in match play. . . .

Unfortunately, U$C and UCLA are both looking pretty strong right now--UCLA just nabbed pole position from U$C. But we'll see...

Match play is a very unique format. Weren't we recently the winner of the round play in men's, only to fall in match play?

We are up to third place, and at -5 for the day, have the second best round of the day (behind UCLA who is running away with it).
