Thanks for sharing the PSU story. I had not realized that Sandy Barbour left cal to run the AD for Penn St. Interesting choice for her given all the Sandusky issues.Â

They list the points for all of the schools ahead of them - except Stanford. Apparently overtaking the other schools is a goal. Stanford? Fugetaboutit!

Barbour was hired by Penn State in 2014. In 2015 Penn State announced they wanted to perform a major renovation to Beaver Stadium. I can't help but guess that Barbour's UCB stadium renovation experience was part of her appeal to PSU.

Indeed. Stanford should widen its lead over Penn State. Not enough time today to estimate Cup points, but here are remaining scoring opportunities for each school for rest of Winter quarter:
Sport  Stanford Penn State Note
------------ ---------------- ---------------- --------------------------------------
Fencing 10 7 Completed.
MSW&D 5 28 Completed.
M Hockey 0 5 Completed.
MBB Â Â Â Â 0 0 Completed.
WBB Â TBD 0 Final Four!
MGYM 2 7 Current ranking.
WGYM 30 31 Estimated ranking, both in NCAA's.
Apologies for the crappy formatting. I forgot BC's tip for well-behaved tables.

Just to clarify, BigEasyCard's table shows rankings (except when it is "0"), not points.

MT, thanks for the clarification. Yes, these are rankings (or actual finish for completed sports), not Cup points. I marked MBB as "Completed" because neither school made the tournament. Zero means no ranking or no Cup scoring opportunity.

Penn State does not have a strong enough collection of spring sports to approach Stanford's total. Normally after the winter sports the BigTen has quite a few teams in the top 10, but then most of them drift down as the SEC, ACC and Pac-12 schools collect points in lacrosse, baseball/softball, tennis, track and golf.
I believe this is why the article noted Penn State's consistent performances in the fall and winter tallies.

Women's Gymnastics season ends with a fourth place finish in the Seattle Regional. This translates to a tie for 19th place in the Cup scoring worth 52.5 points. Unofficially, Stanford now has 1014.75 points.
Story on the Seattle regional is here:
http://www.gostanford.com/news/2017/4/1/womens-gymnastics-strong-finish-falls-short.aspx
From the above article:
"Elizabeth Price won the NCAA Seattle Regional title on bars but Stanford's season came to a close as it finished fourth overall Saturday evening.
....
The strong finish was not quite enough to propel the Cardinal into one of the top two positions for an NCAA Championships berth.
Â
The future remains bright for the Cardinal, which will return 14 routines from its NCAA Seattle Regional squad and will welcome large and talented freshman class."

Stanford Men's Volleyball has qualified for the MPSF post-season tournament with a 7-9 record. The front six players are Long Beach State, BYU, Hawaii, Irvine, UCLA, Pepperdine and Stanford.

Unfortunately, MVB is not likely to earn any Cup points this year. They are currently ranked 9th and only six teams make the NCAA Championship Tournament.
Here are the selection criteria for the 2016 tournament from
http://www.ncaa.com/news/volleyball-men/article/2016-04-24/2016-ncaa-mens-volleyball-committee-announces-championship:
"Conferences receiving automatic qualification include Conference Carolinas, Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The remaining two teams were selected at-large without geographical restrictions."
But, at least there's still a chance.

As a basis for comparison, 962 points at the end of last season would have earned us a 12th place finish, for the whole year!

Successful as UConn has been, they haven't won it over 20 years in a row. Not even UCLA MBB in their heyday has been as successful as the Stanford athletics department.

True. And, while I imagine things will change [at least on the men's side], I got a chuckle out of the fact that, as of the March 27, 2017 standings, at least, the school leading in both the Men's and Women's standings in the Anybody But Stanford Cup race is... yes, that's right.
Time to tweak the scoring process again. Ice Hockey will now be considered a triple-premium sport earning the winning school a bazillion points.
