It's great how staff and team are so well-prepared, even for travel snafus.Â

I'm most impressed with moving cars from parking spots and moving out of dorms! I'm guessing those weren't in the original job description!

i understand the plane needed a part that didn't arrive in time therefore the best laid plans, etc, etc

Great story - thanks for sharing it. Love that Karlie and Britt are doing Ochem and Biochem. Speaks to the legitimacy of the student part of student-athletes at Stanford!

Great stories. Yes indeed, how many other programs are giving their sweet sixteen basketball players organic chemistry exams just days before their game? Start on the men's side and I can count at least....errr....ummm.....hmmm...well...I was going to say 1, but that would only be true if our men's team made it to the sweet sixteen in the 21st century.Â
On a personal note, I'll be traveling this weekend too, and not to the games, so I may not be able to see them live and my posts will be delayed and erratic. Somehow I know the rest of you hardcore WBB fans will keep these boards lit up!

Well, the men's team was in the sweet sixteen in 2001, 2008, and 2014. I believe those qualify for the 21st century.

Wow, my ennui with MBB has become so bad that it distorted my memories....except 2014 which I had honestly forgotten. I found it hard to believe that Trent Johnson lasted all the way to 2008--it seems eons ago.
So, provided one of our MBB players took organic chemistry in one of those years, then the answer is: 1.

But I'm not impressed that two coaches had to do that instead of using the time to prepare for Texas and be with the team. Muir couldn't spare a few junior staffers to handle those minor tasks and Fedex a box of uniforms to Lexington? Or hire a few students to do it?

I think you should read the whole story, Old alum
:DÂ Lots more involved plus it's finals week for the players.
McCall graduates this week so someone had to move her belongings and car. Plus there were "Junior" staffers invoved.Â

Muir has the entirety of the varsity landscape to take care of, not just one program--albeit a very important program. I think programs are expected to be fairly self-sufficient with regard to operations.

It's not just one program: it's
two days for one program
in the Sweet Sixteen preparing for a weekend that could get it into the Final Four. If there's ever a time to devote some extra hours of staff time to a program, this would be it IMO. Maybe Muir was never asked, because of the expectation of self-sufficiency.
I did read the whole story, Bob, and I still feel that, this week, the time of an associate head coach and an assistant coach would be better spent preparing (on short notice) detailed scouting reports on
three opponents and practice plans and video for the players, than taking caring of logistics that non-coaches are perfectly capable of doing. I also think it is Muir's job to marshall extra resources of the athletic department to help a program at the most critical stage of its season. But I appear to be the only person on the planet to think so! So objectively I have to admit my opinion is probably completely wrong (not the first time and won't be the last). But it's still my opinion!

Yes I was including Tara in the "everyone" who disagrees with me so I am in the unenviable position of maintaining that I know better than her what's best for the team. I should probably wait until I reach at least 500 wins before I try that again.

You're also talking about asst coaches who have the right keys to get into the right doors to get the uniforms and who had the keys to drive the cars that needed to be reparked, etc. It's possible such things could have been overnighted to Stanford and duties delegated...but in such a critical moment, it seems logical that the asst coaches would have been the best suited to take care of the program's needs. Maybe they could have gotten one of those robots to perform these duties for the team ;D
I obviously need to go out to Lexington -
oldalum - 03-23-2017
The video shows that the team is not taking this game seriously enough. IMO, I need to go out there and take charge.

ESPN article about the growth of Texas' Joyner Holmes and our Alanna Smith and how even though they were non-factors in the November game, could be critical players in tomorrow evening's game:
http://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/18986562/women-ncaa-tournament-texas-joyner-holmes-stanford-alanna-smith-ready-make-sweet-16-impact
Obviously, I hope it will be Alanna who comes up with another big game and our defense can get Holmes in early foul trouble, like we did in the first matchup.
Texas has a lot of scoring threats (McCarty, Holmes, Lang), we need to bring our A game on both ends of the floor. As good as our defense is, it's hard to imagine holding them to 59 points like we did last time. Erica can't have one of her off games and Bri/Marta might need to contribute some points themselves to open up the floor.

I have to say, watching the early play, that I'm really worried about what will happen when Missy finally locates her whistle.
My gosh, the refs are letting physical play just go nuts.

We lead 18-17 after one quarter after having a 6 to 8 point lead for most of the time, due to our offensive rebounding, a hot start by McCall (8 points on 4/5 shooting) and sagging off lesser threats from Texas and daring them to take shots that they are not great at and missing.
Unfortunately, when Texas subbed in some of their alternates, they started hitting shots and we had a couple turnovers due to a steal and offensive foul and we finished the first 10 with only a point lead.
Interesting that Tara came out of the timeout late in the fourth with Fingall and Carrington in there, but their plan was quickly scrubbed for our starters.
