there were some other smallish ones but I'm not sure if any of them are still around or not.

Diversity nowhere near the levels in The City.
Which City are you referring to? In the 2010 Census, 58.1% of SF's population self-identified as non-white compared to 63.9% self-identifying as non-white in the city of Santa Clara and 71.3% who identify as non-white in San Jose.
San Francisco is a comparatively white place relative to San Jose, Santa Clara or Oakland. Or did you mean some other City?
[/quote]
I think he was referring to diversity
in the stadium (and not amongst the players). While the city and whole Bay Area is reasonably diverse, I would imagine that 49ers ticket holders are not so much.

I see. Is there a demographic study comparing the two, or is it a seat of the pants thing?

Seat of the pants, and perhaps biased by stereotypes of today's in person 49ers fan and who might be able to afford their rather hefty ticket prices.

for anyone who wants to see an interesting documentary on the chip business in the Valley check out "The Fairchild Chronicles". All the early players in the chip business in the Valley are in it except for Bob Noyce, who had already passed.

I'd like us (the board, society, take your pick) to get to a place where "diversity" as a virtue refers to more than just melanin.

Phogge's original quote: "I'm a big fan of grit. Candlestick had it, Levi's doesn't. It's a country club and not a muni. Levi's is antiseptic and so are the people. Diversity nowhere near the levels in The City."
Nowhere does he say that he means racial or ethnic diversity. Based on the entire tenor of this thread (aside from Mick's post about the racial makeup of SF versus SJ, and my throwaway line about the players), it could just as easily refer to socioeconomic diversity. Read Yvonne's great post, for example.

I am the OP here and did not intend to stir a pot. Instead, my hope was to discuss what I consider to be a "developing story" regarding Levis Stadium.
As far as I know, for several reasons, especially sun exposure, parking, transportation access , the stadium may become a growing issue for the 49ers and the NFL.
To me it is remarkable that a billion dollar plus major construction project, with so many presumably professional eyeballs looking at it during the planning phase, including architects, could be approved with so many now apparent problems.
I do sincerely believe that Santa Clara's stadium issues, including the reluctance of people to attend games there, will negatively impact the 49ers team football play performance.

Sight lines are generally good but the upper deck is a long way away. My SB camera position was at the top of the stadium. I wouldn't have paid a shilling to sit there. My regular position is on Level 4 West, just under the network broadcasting booth. It's the best angle for NFL Films Top Position in the league. Anybody sitting in the small Level 4 deck has a tremendous seat. The high rise East side is akin to the Sahara, the desert and not the hotel, in Sept/Oct. Just brutal heat and direct sun. Game 2 in 2014 had at least 75% of seat holders leave by halftime.
I'm a big fan of grit. Candlestick had it, Levi's doesn't. It's a country club and not a muni. Levi's is antiseptic and so are the people. Diversity nowhere near the levels in The City.
Bring your credit cards, everything is for sale.
Phogge, thank you for the details about Levis Stadium. Good information, most all of which I had not before known.

I have not been there, but the relatively new Seahawks stadium seems to receive favorable commentary.

Kezar is serving the city of San Francisco very well. In the Fall it is the home field for a few high school football programs.During the Spring season it is used by high school track and field teams. And as part SF's Park and Rec department, Kezar is open year round to joggers, runners, the trendy "exercise boot camp masochist crowd " etc...
When the 49ers moved to Candlestick Kezar was neglected for about 10 years, but more recently it has undergone two major renovations and is now a beautiful asset to its surrounding neighborhoods and all of SF.

Also, for a couple years there, Kezar was the site of our spring game.

From my camera position I can see most of the seats. My eyes are what have given me 50 years of employment in the film business. It's not seat of the pants Mick, it's what I do. The crowd is pretty white and no social commentary is meant.

Ah, I see. The grit of the chardonnay and brie 49er crowds of the 1980s. Now I understand.

A false premise from the get go. A ton of Latinos, a whole bunch of Sunset boys fresh from TK's, The Portals, The Philosophers Club and Fahey's and plenty of WW2 vets and their kids who started attending when the Niners played in the AAFC.

After growing up on a farm in West Virginia, Richard Niner spent his career building small businesses across a wide variety of industries. One of his business ventures brought him to Paso Robles in the early 1990s and he was immediately drawn to the potential of both the land and the people who lived here.
