Quote: His final regular season game ended the same way as his first, and like many others in between. With a win. In the final year under head coach Mark Marquess, No. 9 Stanford capped a 40-win season with its seventh consecutive victory, 15-1, over Washington State at Bailey-Brayton Field on Saturday afternoon.

The decisive victory put an exclamation point on an impressive resume for the NCAA selection committee as Stanford (40-14, 21-9 Pac-12) tries to grab a top eight national seed. The Cardinal will enter the postseason with wins in 21 of its last 23 games, including four Pac-12 sweeps and six consecutive series wins.

Site hosts for the NCAA Regionals will be unveiled on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. PT., and the postseason seeds and field will be announced on Monday at 9 a.m. PT on ESPN2.

Stanford's 40 regular season wins are the most since 2004, and the most overall since 2012 (41). It is the 21st 40-win season in the 41-year tenure of Coach Marquess, who is retiring at season's end.

"Last 10 Games" used to be one of the metrics used by the men's and women's basketball selection committees but was formally eliminated as criteria about five years ago. I don't think any other sports used it as a metric.

Nevertheless, Stanford's tremendous finishing run will surely boost our seeding even if it's not an formal criteria.

Here's one site predicting a Palo Alto Regional with #8 seed Stanford as of May 27.

Re: Baseball @ WSU Thursday-Saturday -- NCAA selections on Monday - JJJ - 05-28-2017

I must admit I'm confused by this:

Quote:The remaining at-large teams, top-eight national seeds, first-round regional pairings and site assignments will be announced at noon ET on Monday, May 29. The one-hour program will be shown live on ESPN2. The committee will set the entire 64-team bracket through both the super regionals and the first round of the Men’s College World Series and will not reseed the field after play begins.

Selection of the eight super regional hosts will be announced on www.ncaa.com/cws on Tuesday, June 6 at approximately 8 a.m. ET.

The top 8 seeds will be announced on Monday, but the super regional hosts won't be announced until Tuesday? ???

The top 8 seeds will be announced tomorrow (Monday 5/29) and the super regional hosts will be announced a week from Tuesday (6/6) i.e. after the conclusion of the regionals.

The announcement of the super regional hosts is really a formality for top 8 seeds that win their regional, since they will host their super regional unless they have a facilities conflict. However, in those super regionals where neither team was a top 8 seed then the selection committee uses seeding/ranking to determine who will host.

Ahh, I hadn't been paying attention to the details. Thanks for the clarification!

Don't know the answer off the top of my head, but Hanewich is the only righty starter and he hasn't started since early in the season. It is interesting that we have an all-lefty rotation, but it's working.

Sandy Vance in 1967?

Faced Vance once and he threw hard. But nobody back then threw harder than Mike Adamson of the school that now plays at Dedeaux Field. Got hurt way too early and was done.

Hanewich 2/28 vs Davis?

Hanewich 2/28 vs Davis?

Nice, CT (and Phogge). That was Hanewich's second and last start, the only two starts of the entire season by a right-hander. It looks like 9 started the season with Bubic/Hanewich/Castellanos (loss, loss, win), then the very next weekend he went with Bubic/Miller/Summerville/Castellanos (all wins) with Hanewich as the midweek starter (he also won), and then that was it. Since then, Hanewich has become the long reliever, and the weekend starters have become Bubic/Summerville/Castellanos with Miller as the fourth/midweek starter. I don't think I've ever seen an all-lefty rotation.

Re: Baseball @ WSU Thursday-Saturday -- NCAA selections on Monday - Phogge - 05-29-2017

Probably the closet were the '83 Yanks whose top five starters were all lefties:
Guidry 31 starts
Righetti 31
Shane Rawley 33
Bob Shirley 17
Ray Fontenot 15 for 127 LH starts

Next was Matt Keough RH with 12.

Re: Baseball @ WSU Thursday-Saturday -- NCAA selections on Monday - BobK - 05-29-2017

Of course Matt's dad and Dave's dad were SF Seals

Re: Baseball @ WSU Thursday-Saturday -- NCAA selections on Monday - winflop - 05-29-2017

Regional is set:
1 Stanford
2 Cal St Fullerton
3 BYU
4 Sacramento St

Titans are a tough matchup but as the #8 seed we should expect a tough second team
