And that's another factor you bring in, Mick: the mental part of golf.  Tennis, as one contrast, is so much a game of reacting.  But in golf, you have minutes to reflect on what just happened and what you must do next. 

Golf is like a series of free throws, many of them critical.  It's a special temperament that can deal with it. And even many those people can end up breaking down--Sam Snead's yips in his 40's, as one example.

Basically a much more interesting version of archery :)  I should learn this sport...(or get better at archery).
